As a much younger man, even if he is president of the world's most powerful country, Obama is entirely proper in showing pointed respect for an elder counterpart. Moreover, Abdullah holds a variety of positions that deserve and require recognition-king; custodian of the holy mosques of Mecca and Medina; elder statesman of the Arab world; son of the founder of his country.

Lame. None of this trivia excuses or explains any US president doing obeisance to a foreign monarch. The lengths to which Obama's apologists will go to justify his actions are pathetic.

No doubt, huh? Obama needs to realize the game is up... He isn’t fooling anyone with this stuff. In deference to more than 220 years of American diplomatic protocol Obama shouldn't have bowed to King Abdullah. Someone on his staff should have tutored him. However, once Obama did bow, the White House should have acknowledged it. By denying the bow the White House now risks offending the king and creating an issue in Saudi Arabia. Obama was greeted warmly on his trip not because he is a serious world leader but because he is a human curio—a political “rock star.” Bowing, then denying bowing, will cause some to see him as a buffoon.

I would have thought that the counterpart of a popularly-elected American president would have been, e.g., the president of France, or at least the indirectly-elected Chancellor of Germany.

An autocratic, hereditary monarch is not the counterpart of a democratically-elected U.S. president.

The answers are obvious and no spin can change them. Obama has now placed the United States as subservient under this Islamic Sheik. In the book, “2012 The Evolution” by A. Adams, the President greets the Sheik with a bow at an official function, just like this one, and then later turns the country over. This book is amazing. Obama’s Cabinet are following this book like it was a script! The buyout is already happening.
