Bush AIDS fight saved 1.1M, study says
Washington Times ^ | April 7, 2009 | Stephen Dinan

Former President George W. Bush's international AIDS-fighting campaign has reduced by 10 percent the mortality rates in 15 targeted countries, primarily in Africa, and has saved 1.1 million lives, according to a study that for the first time quantified the successes of his program.

The study by two Stanford University doctors showed the treatment part of PEPFAR, the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, which involves making drug treatment available to about 2 million people, has shown solid success while the prevention efforts under the program have not yet produced the same concrete results.

"It has averted deaths - a lot of deaths - with about a 10 percent reduction compared with neighboring African countries," said Dr. Eran Bendavid, a fellow in infectious disease and in health policy and research at Stanford who led the study. "However, we could not see a change in prevalence rates that was associated with PEPFAR."

So the left will spin this:

1.1 million starving people to continue to feed and cloth that have no jobs or work in a tribal system that destroys the heart of mankind.

Bush is being vindicated at every turn, albeit slowly. Missile defense for NK’s recent launch over Japan. Saving lives in Africa. Economic bailouts *before* the banks went bust. Surge in Iraq. Smashing the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Amber Alert.

Banning Partial Birth Abortion.

Somehow BO failed to mention little facts such as this and the fact that millions of Iraqis no longer live under Saddam’s persecution when he was attacking the USA on foreign soil in his European campaign tour.
When will his enablers apologize to the rest of us for this malignant presidency?

Let’s add all of the lives saved in Iraq as well as the unborn he protected! He saved more lives that BO will save in jobs! But why would the press want to report anything as insignificant as millions of lives?

Everybody here is apparently thrilled at the federal government exceeding its constitutional mandate. Left and right play the same game: it’s ok if our people do it.
If this had been Clinton same people here would have been rightfully complaining.

So $66 billion of our dollars are being spent on 2 million people. They claim a reduction in mortality rate of 10%. That would be 200,000 people saved, yet they are claiming 1.1 million people saved.

Then there is this bit of information.

It looked at death and infection rates from 2004 through 2007 in countries PEPFAR focused on versus 29 other African nations. The study found HIV infection rates were about the same.
In other words it's a failure. This is a giveaway program to the drug companies.

One has to wonder if more lives couldn't be saved by buying DDT and building sewage treatment plants for a whole lot less money.

Very nice results, but there’s nothing here that couldn’t have been done equally well with private money. President Bush could have asked all Americans to contribute to an effort to help those with AIDS in Africa. I would have probably voluntarily contributed to it myself. However, he chose to use federal power to steal other people’s money to give to the charity of HIS choice. Not nice. The ends do not justify the means, Mr. Bush.

I’m not thrilled with the idea of government forcing people to donate to a president’s pet projects, even if they are worthy ones. This power grab is unconstitutional and sets precedent for other presidents to do the same.

Where is the line drawn? Do the FReeper Bush cheerleaders now complain when Obama spends tax money on what he thinks is important, such as government paid college tuition for all? If so, they are hypocrites.

Our founders knew where to rightly draw the line.

Your praise of Bush is sickening. He is a left-wing socialist troll.

And don’t tell me he kept us safe, ask those killed by our illegal CITIZEN problems.
