Even if police officers had immediately entered the immigrant center where a gunman had just shot down 13 people, the victims' injuries were so severe that none would have survived, a county prosecutor said Sunday.
But police didn't enter the American Civic Association until nearly 45 minutes after the first 911 calls came in at 10:30 a.m. Friday. They began removing the wounded about 15 minutes after that.
It took more than two hours to clear the building. Survivors reported huddling for hours in a basement, not knowing whether they were still in danger after the gunman, 41-year-old Jiverly Wong, killed 13 people.
Medical examiners who conducted autopsies reported that the victims' injuries were so severe they would not have survived, Broome County District Attorney Gerald F. Mollen said....
When police arrived at the scene, the gunfire had stopped, so they believed there was no "active gunman" in the center and decided to wait for the SWAT team to arrive, Zikuski said.
The SWAT team entered the building until 11:13 a.m., 43 minutes after the first call to police....

Incredible. The Democrat Binghampton police are now playing coverup.
Victims lay bleeding for over an hour while the police cowered outside.
Whaaaat?? I don't get it. Does this make sense to anyone else?
My fault. I searched for Binghampton, not Binghamton.
It bears repeating anyway. We cannot count on the police to protect us.
Nope. Just like Columbine. If there’s a crazed gunman or two, the police will just wait for an hour or two rather going in to help. Sure makes me warm and fuzzy to know they got our backs in an emergency.
The receptionist who dialed 911 was one of those shot.
The coverup is in full force here.
I *REALLY* doubt any of you would rush into gunfire.
There was no gunfire.
They were on the phone with a bleeding woman who could describe what was going on.
They still waited. It doesn’t make sense.
I think it is understandable for a citizen not to want to rush into that kind of situation. When that citizen is a police officer, kind of different, don't you think? Someone who wants to avoid any gunfire probably should choose another line of work.
If I was getting paid to "protect and serve" I would. Seems to me, rushing into gunfire to protect the innocent is kind of in the job description of being a police officer. If it's not, then it should be. This is yet another instance that proves the truth in the statement; "When seconds count, the police are minutes away".
Saying that a policeman shouoldn’t “rush” to the sound of gunfire is like saying that firemen shouldn’t “rush” to the sight of smoke!
And THESE are the people into whose protective arms I am supposed to run instead of obtaining, carrying and (if necessary) using my own means of self defense?
No thanks.
No.
I should expand on my previous point. My son runs into burning buildings for a living. I’ve never known him to wait outside for reinforcements when lives are at stake!!!
You were there? You saw this?
Real life isn't Starsky and Hutch. Cops follow orders. You have no idea what the frontline responders were thinking or feeling yet you assume the worst.
Fixed it.
They Government can defend all it wants but the truth is that it fails to protect the citizens that it taxes to protect.
Criminals understand that they have the upperhand for at least an hour in any situation like this. Thata is what they often want. The attention. Oh look, I’m on Tv in a building surrounded by police and they are not even trying to stop me,they are afraid of me.
The system
we do have an idea.
They were on the phone with the receptionist.
)The shooting stopped before they arrived.
She was able to inform them the shooter was not in her room (near the front door)
She was able to inform them the shooter had moved on to the next room and she could no longer hear shots.
Certainly - this information should NOT have encouraged them to continue to wait? While shooting victims continued to bleed out?
I actually do understand the Police not wanting to go in until they know what’s going on and where the shooter is etc.. Most people don’t understand, their primary job is not to protect us, but to enforce the law and investigate the law breakers.
What I don’t understand are the police that want to disarm the law abiding citizen. If the job falls to us to protect ourselves, I’m okay with that. Just don’t disarm me from the tools that would accomplish this.
