A pair of bills introduced in the U.S. Senate would grant the White House sweeping new powers to access private online data, regulate the cybersecurity industry and even shut down Internet traffic during a declared "cyber emergency."
Senate bills No. 773 and 778, introduced by Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.V., are both part of what's being called the Cybersecurity Act of 2009, which would create a new Office of the National Cybersecurity Advisor, reportable directly to the president and charged with defending the country from cyber attack.
A working draft of the legislation obtained by an Internet privacy group also spells out plans to grant the Secretary of Commerce access to all privately owned information networks deemed to be critical to the nation's infrastructure "without regard to any provision of law, regulation, rule or policy restricting such access."

Obama can hardly read his teleprompter correctly, how the heck does he expect to control the internet?
“Obama can hardly read his teleprompter correctly, how the heck does he expect to control the internet?”
He’ll get help from Acorn volunteers.

Easy, he will use his army of Obamabots to scour the Internet and report any “hate speech” they find. Those sites will be shut down immediately.
“Obama can hardly read his teleprompter correctly, how the heck does he expect to control the internet?”
With Al Gore’s help, silly!
Al Gore invented Obama.
Getting everything in place before torching the Reichstag.
Will gubmint healthcare be run like this? Count on it...
“Al Gore invented Obama.”
The king of hot air (global warming) knows it when he sees it, no doubt.
This is a tough one, but the reality is that cyberattacks are likely to be a major part of international warfare in the future, and we do have to have a way of mounting an immediate, coordinated defense. The Constitutional rights of all citizens to freedom of speech and to retention of control of their private property unless due process of law results in its lawful seizure, are bumping up against the Constitutional power of the President to act as Commader-in-Chief. The Framers must be looking down on this dilemma thinking “Thank God I’m retired and don’t have to deal with this!”.
I understand, that when the new rules are put in place to control Global Warming, Cows and Al Gore will both be taxed for the Gas they produce.
They can't even get basic policy right, let alone be ready for anything resembling a real attack.
Things are moving way too fast not to see that something Really BIG has been set in motion. Biblical proportions, dare I say?
“This is a tough one...”
It will become easier in the near term.
Socialism - described by Marx as the transition between democracy and communism - is inconsistent with the Constitution.
Then, the question will be whether we have the guts our forefathers had.
Biblical Proportions, I think you’re right!

To any liberals lurking here that may think this is a good idea... Be careful what powers you give the government. Just consider former President Bush with these powers... I dare say no-one wants their government, nor elected officials they do not like or trust, to have these powers.
At this point NO Democratic bill is to be trusted — tyranny is upon us, and they are tyrants who can lie as easily as they can tie their shoes. And among those tyrants and liars, Rockefeller is a high Prince.
Is this bill a threat to internet freedom? — YOU BETHCA!
