Philadelphia, PA (LifeNews.com) -- Though the University of Notre Dame is coming under intense criticism for its decision to have pro-abortion President Barack Obama give its graduation address, the Catholic Saint Josephs University has invited pro-abortion MSNBC political talk show host Chris Matthews to give commencement.
That is despite Matthews long-standing pro-abortion views and his recent comparison of pro-life advocates to terrorists.
Like Notre Dame, Saint Joseph's will also give Matthews an honorary degree at the gradation ceremonies.
Matthews is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross but his own Catholic faith has diverged from the pro-life teachings of the Catholic Church.
His political career saw him as a top staffer for pro-abortion former House Speaker Tip O'Neil and he is an unabashed supporter of Obama.
In March, Matthews referred to pro-life advocates who oppose pro-abortion Health Secretary nominee Kathleen Sebelius as terrorists.
During his program "Hardball," Matthews worried that Sebelius would become the target of "the terrorism of the, of the anti-abortion people."
Immediately after making the remark, Matthews appeared to realize his mistake and corrected himself to say, "I mean verbal terrorism."
St. Joseph's is defying the request the nation's Catholics bishops made in a document providing instructions for Catholic colleges and universities.
The Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles, said the bishops said in a 2004 statement. They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions.

Catholic Ping List
Please freepmail me if you want on/off this list
Chrissy is taking his tingle on the road. Nice.
Are these rebellious Catholic institutions? What’s the matter with them?
There’s mental insanity in these Catholic University administrators...

“Are these rebellious Catholic institutions?”
Rebellious and no longer really Catholic.
“Whats the matter with them?”
Led by the Devil.
“Theres mental insanity in these Catholic University administrators...”
I think it leans more toward possession than insanity.
Sad testimony. . .
Years ago Bishop Sheen recommended sending your children to a good state University with a GOOD Newman Club.
They wanted to make a statement about being pro-abortion.
Another “Catholic” university that will not receive any donations from me or my family.
Semper Fi,
Kelly
I can ALMOST see the rationale behind inviting the sitting POTUS to speak at a Catholic university - although I would not do it in the case of Obama. But for a Catholic school to invite a partisan nothing like “tingles” Chrissy, no conceivable rationale at all.
It’s amazing isn’t it, how language and liberal attitudes have permeated so many people.
So now pro-life people are on the same level as terrorists. Interesting............
Anyone opposed to same-sex marriage is also a hate filled bigot who doesn’t want to celebrate diversity...........
Anyone who is opposed to affirmative action is a racist...............
Anyone who is opposed to Obama’s tax “fairness” plans hates the poor and wants to help the rich get richer, the unspoken thought being that the wealthy are somehow evil...............
Anyone who opposed gun control is in favor of massacres such as happened in upstate New York yesterday..............
Anyone opposed to socialized medicine is against health care for the poor....................
Anyone opposed to abortion on demand is in favor of women dying on a coat hanger.......................
If you are not sold on the hype of global warming, you are in favor of despoiling the environment and you are in favor of our coastal cities being flooded................
If you don’t want to use those new fangled light bulbs, you are in favor of pollution and aren’t concerned about protecting Mother Earth................
I’m sure I missed some liberal mind-sets here. But I think I’m catching on. If you oppose the liberal/radical agenda in any way, you don’t just disagree. You are evil and must be destroyed.
I guess Catholics don’t really care much about abortion.
Nice generalization. I guess your mommy and daddy didn’t believe in educating their children.
Apparently occuring the wrath of Christians and God doesn't bother them anymore.
Close ... but try using a different adjective like secular. Back in 2005, then Cardnal Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict XVI), delivered this homily at the Mass preceding the election of the new pontiff. In it, he commented:
How many winds of doctrine have we known in recent decades, how many ideological currents, how many ways of thinking. The small boat of the thought of many Christians has often been tossed about by these waves - flung from one extreme to another: from Marxism to liberalism, even to libertinism; from collectivism to radical individualism; from atheism to a vague religious mysticism; from agnosticism to syncretism and so forth. Every day new sects spring up, and what St Paul says about human deception and the trickery that strives to entice people into error (cf. Eph 4: 14) comes true.

Prophetic, in a sense. This is what we are witnessing on a global scale. And it will get worse before it gets better.
There are alot of Catholics that do, but apparently more that don’t.
Both Notre Dame and now St. Joseph are handing out "HONORARY" degrees to men who are in full support of murdering unborn children. It is long overdue for the Catholic church to stand against those who are in favor of killing off our unborn children. Politicians and those in the media are saying it is OK to kill children with their support of abortion. Church leadership needs to give them a good kick in the seat of the pants to the curb.
In your opinion, how much worse will it get and for how many more years?
Thanks for the link to Pope Benedict’s homily. I enjoy reading him so much.
