Pitchforks and Pistols
New York Times ^ | April 3, 2009 | Charles M. Blow

Posted on 04/04/2009 3:57:25 AM PDT by reaganaut1

Lately I’ve been consuming as much conservative media as possible (interspersed with shots of Pepto-Bismol) to get a better sense of the mind and mood of the right. My read: They’re apocalyptic. They feel isolated, angry, betrayed and besieged. And some of their “leaders” seem to be trying to mold them into militias.

At first, it was entertaining — just harmless, hotheaded expostulation. Of course, there were the garbled facts, twisted logic and veiled hate speech. But what did I expect, fair and balanced? It was like walking through an ideological house of mirrors. The distortions can be mildly amusing at first, but if I stay too long it makes me sick.

But, it’s not all just harmless talk. For some, their disaffection has hardened into something more dark and dangerous. They’re talking about a revolution.

Some simply lace their unscrupulous screeds with loaded language about the fall of the Republic. We have to “rise up” and “take back our country.” Others have been much more explicit.

For example, Chuck Norris, the preeminent black belt and prospective Red Shirt, wrote earlier this month on the conservative blog WorldNetDaily: “How much more will Americans take? When will enough be enough? And, when that time comes, will our leaders finally listen or will history need to record a second American Revolution?”

Yes, some on the Right are apocalyptic, with good reason.

The Left believes that 51% of the voters have the right to coerce 49% of the population, except when they infringe on rights recognized by the Left. They see nothing wrong with a government being financed only by heavy taxes 5% of the population, designated as the "rich".

On the other hand, when the unwashed masses have the wrong views, for example on homosexual marriage, the Left can create a "right" to homosexual marriage regardless of what the majority thinks, as done most recently by the Iowa Supreme Court.

Right-leaning Americans are supposed to sit still for it, even if the system is rigged against them by reimposition of the "Fairness Doctrine", campaign finance laws that muzzle people not in the mainstream media, "hate-speech" laws used to criminalize certain views, and government schools partially used for indoctrination. When things reach a breaking point, they may not.

What’s funny about this is that one need only change “right” to “left” and this entire piece could have been written at any time since about 1960.

As the comedian Bill Maher pointed out, strong language can poison weak minds, as it did in the case of Timothy McVeigh.

Ah, the "Limbaugh caused McVeigh" line--a Clinton special!

Must observe the rules: Rightwing talk OBVIOUSLY causes violence, whereas leftwing movies about killing George Bush and photos captioned with "Snipers Wanted" are just good plain fun.

(We sometimes forget that not all dangerous men are trained by Al Qaeda.)

No, they're also trained by the Black Panthers and the Weathermen. But leftist killers are different, somehow.

“What’s funny about this is that one need only change “right” to “left” and this entire piece could have been written at any time since about 1960.”

Except for this, when the Right is in power the Left is given the freedom to do as they please.

When the Left fully consolidates power, the Right will not be accorded that same freedom.

We better use our freedom now before we lose it altogether.

What does this guy think the Second Amendment was enumerated in the Constitution? The Framers knew what Big Government could do and wanted citizens to have a chance to fight “oppressive” government.

The Left wants to take over the country without a shot being fired because they hood-winked the stupid young and paid off the welfare class to win a plurality in ‘08. After all the blood shed by people much more valuable than they, they think we should forget freedom and don the serf’s rags without a whimper because they are now in charge. They should expect a fight from patriots.

The blood of patriots and tyrants, that is all that will save this nation at this point.
“God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion.
The people cannot be all, and always, well informed.
The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive.
If they remain quiet under such misconceptions,it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. ...

And what country can preserve its liberties, if it’s rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance?

Let them take arms.
The remedy is to set them right as to the facts, pardon and pacify them.
What signify a few lives lost in a century or two?

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from
time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”

Let me explain it this way Mr Blow. Your article has about as much value for me as watching 10 black dudes run up and down a basketball floor. If you leftist blacks knew and understood how your bread was buttered...remaining comments self censored.

"The Left believes that 51% of the voters have the right to coerce 49% of the population, except when they infringe on rights recognized by the Left."

I read a statistic that said 40% of the population did not vote or threw votes away, which would indicate that only 30.6% voted for the lefty and 29.4% voted for Sarah. Hardly a mandate!

And the left thinks this is funny???

Obviously they believe we are too stupid to formulate a plan, much less execute it...

It is not going to be an large group, or mass of hate filled populace storming the Bastille this time...Obviously the stupid is on them for believing this is how it will go down...

It is going to be the individual, the singularity of a personal choice that will enact a change they can believe in...

And nobody involved will know what that other person is doing...shhhhhhhhh, it’s all good...

And the unwashed masses will not have a clue, nor will they get in the way in the long run...As long as they can be entertained by TV, and other mindless entertainment venues...We can do this, and they won’t know any better...

Piece of cake folks...

I refuse to believe there's a black man named Charles M. Blow.

Decatur Washington or Rufus Ellerington maybe ... but not Charles M. Blow.

(My sincere apologies if the names I pulled out of thin air belong to real people)

So he notices “veiled hate speech.” Apparently he prefers the real hate speech he hears on MoveOn.org or The View.

I’m glad we make him sick. All I can say is, Load up on your Pepto-Bismol a**hole, you’re going to need it.
