Why is whitehouse.gov hosted in GERMANY? I'm asking.
Does anyone have any idea? This question was posed by Scott on a closed list I am on. I think it deserves a wider audience.
The image I've presented here comes from http://en.utrace.de/?query=www.whitehouse.gov

Remember UUNET?
You just need O’s face instead of Hitler’s.
For the Bush admin, likely Sterling.
That is San Jose 1, ATT. 1/2 of the building is Government account.
Why is whitehouse.gov hosted in GERMANY?
Why is Merkel all buddy buddy with him all of a sudden?
Domain: whitehouse.gov IP Address: 96.7.250.135 Region: Cambridge
Maybe they wanted to honor the birthplace of Mrs Chief Engineer? Sorry I couldn’t resist.

Should Obama Control The Internet? (Free Speech Alert)
Mother Jones ^ | 4/03/2009 | Steve Aquino
“The Cybersecurity Act of 2009 (PDF) gives the president the ability to “declare a cybersecurity emergency” and shut down or limit Internet traffic in any “critical” information network “in the interest of national security.” The bill does not define a critical information network or a cybersecurity emergency. That definition would be left to the president”

US Internet shut down will not effect white house site. This looks like the white house will still have world Internet access out of Germany while the US internet is shut down by executive order. Same as shutting down the phone system.
Very Scarey Stuff. We as citizens also lose contact with our troops posted abroad.
Jim Rob, time to have a mirror FR site off shore.STAT
Trace Routes can be spoofed. And routes don’t dispute a domain point. And domains only point to listed name servers. IOW, that domain in Germany is a listed name server.
ping
Not being at all domain tech savvy, I have no clue what this means. Pray whatever steps that can be taken to protect us are done, if it is un-American in intent.
You'll love my nuts.
But, hey, we can't do this all day you know.
It means that the physical location of the White House Gov server is now in Germany. If Obama closes down he internet
( he can according to new law) The WHitehouse gov site will still be operational as an off shore site.
Not sure if he lives there now, but isn’t that where he lived while a Nazi sympathizer?
No it doesn't. According ARIN, I ping a Cambridge, Mass. address. All it means that the site is mirrored/cached on machines distributed around the country and world.
That, in and of itself, is not a sinister plot. Just good design for a globally accessed site.
Because Merkel wants to be “all buddy buddy” with everyone in her election year. But then again... the Turkish President didn´t get a smile from her at the receipton yesterday, and the Russians aren´t on her “hot list”, too.
But, good news for y´all: Germans love America again (thanks to Barrack Hussein). 73% of Germans say that the US is a close ally they can trust in (78% for France, 68% for UK), while a majority says they can´t rely on China or Russia. lol
