CNN correspondent Alina Cho loaded the regal language into her report on Wednesday’s American Morning about Europe’s “apparent love affair” with Michelle Obama. Besides the obligatory Jackie Kennedy references, Cho gave a preview of the first lady’s tea with Queen Elizabeth II: “On today’s schedule: tea with the queen, and insiders say the queen and America’s queen bee will be fast friends.” The correspondent even compared Mrs. Obama to Princess Diana. She also referred to the Obamas as the “royal family of the United States.”
Cho began her report by hyping the first lady’s popularity, how it apparently isn’t exclusive to the States, and how it could overshadow her husband the president: “Tina Brown, as you know, joked about an hour ago that Sara Brown is a beautiful girl but, you know, everybody sort of knows that right now, at least, she pales in comparison to Michelle Obama. Of course, the big question is, could she overshadow the president?...So, you know, there’s no denying that Michelle Obama is a rock star in America, but how is her style and personality playing abroad? Well, the early reviews are very good. The apparent love affair with the U.S. first lady is flourishing in Europe.”
After announcing that Mrs. Obama is a “brand new star” overseas, using glowing remarks from people on a British street to underscore her point, the correspondent made her “royal family” reference to the Obamas. Presidential historian Allan Lichtman (who was unidentified during the report) adopted this moniker in his first sound bite: “How the royal family, and not just a head of government, is received, is very important for perception back here at home.”

Alina Cho has obviously OD’s on the Kool Aid.
The Queen and Diana were NOT fast friends.
I seriously doubt that The Queen sees Michelle as any kind of a friend.
Royalty? The NObama’s are a Royal Pain in the A$$, but that is as close to royalty they can come in the USA.
Kenyan Royalty? More likely.
The absolute lack of class they both exhibit is so apparent. I can well imagine that Queen Elizabeth had the area de-contaminated after the NObamas left the grounds.
I watched NObama and Michelle walking together....she is very tall, but he is absolute taking very large steps, without any regard for her trying to walk in high heeled shoes, and allowing her to at least APPEAR to be a bit more feminine. Looks more like he never learned to walk at the appropriate pace for a woman in high heels. She has to stride out to keep uo with him, and it is very undignified, IMO.
Man, these “reporters” are utterly pathetic in their bias! They’re mercilous. Give us a break!
We got rid of royalty in 1776. We don’t need this dude as king.
This is alarmingly dangerous talk when coupled with the “firing” if GM’s CEO.
The queen has her position by virtue of somebody else in her family dying. Much like Ariana Huffington, she never would have accomplished anything on her own. It truly amazes me that the UK still allows the farce that is the monarchy to continue. Cut their funding and let the monarchy fade away.
At least Jacqueline was good looking. Michelle Obama is an ugly skank.
This may strike us as a strange coincidence, but there probably aren't enough Korean last names to go around. At least, there are an awful lot of Kims and Parks over there.
Oh, I agree, but Windsor and Buckingham protocol are every bit as arcane and incomprehensible as BCS rules, and are fun to argue :)

Chewi sure didn’t waste any time on learning protocol. Only soemone exceedingly low rent turns her back on her hosts. (and that holds extra true in the Arab world)
To paraphrase Bill Buckley, a couple people picked at random from a phone book would be able to navigate that situation better than than those two.
