I have detected a disturbing trend in the tenor of the debate now coming from the left.
Blogs, phone calls to talk radio and letters to the editor all ring with the same theme. Anything that is remotely critical of our president or the Democrats in Congress is now being characterized as "hate speech." Liberals have even been emboldened to shout at me across busy floors of public commerce. The political dialogue in this country has taken a nasty turn.
When I took a vacation from my column here at The Tennessean last week, the left-wing blogosphere rejoiced that the only decidedly conservative voice of the Sunday opinion page had, at last, been banished. Sorry to disappoint you: I'm back.
You may not agree with my opinions. They may, in fact, enrage you, but you should be willing to at least listen to what those who don't share your vision of what this country ought to be have to say.
A few weeks ago, the editor of a small-town newspaper very publicly banned my writings from his newspaper. Not over something I had written in his newspaper, mind you, but because of a position I had taken here in The Tennessean. What could possibly be so distasteful as to warrant my lifetime ban from his publication? I dared ask the question, "What are we getting for our federal tax dollars?'' When George W. Bush was spending money on what people on the left claimed was an "endless, pointless, immoral war,'' then questioning the expenditures of the federal government was not only acceptable but mandatory.

Nobody is required to listen or read anything conservatives have to say or write...The same could be said for the flip-side of that coin...
What we apparently understand, and they do not, is that you should not tread on that right to do so...
Would any of us desire to control, regulate, restrict or even deny a person to voice a liberal or socialist point of view???
They apparently feel it necessary to do so, so what do we intend to do about that???
We get a chance every year to change things at a local level in our communities...Every two years we get to expand that change to some larger races...
Every 4 years, we get to correct something that in this case needs correcting...
If everyone is tired of politics now, then you haven’t seen anything yet...
The 2012 race is ALREADY heating up...
I wonder if anyone would care to keep up the pace till then, and encourage others to be as vigilant and fired up till then as well???
Apathy certainly does kill political activism...And if we allow liberalism to create this apathy, because some believe we’ll do what needs to be done when the time comes...I only have to point out that the last few election cycles blows that theory out of the water!
We're just lucky that the Democrats never got their Thought Crimes legislation through or the author would be fined or in jail (and FR would be shutdown or offshore...).
First of all, “liberal” is a misnomer. These are people whose political views are left-of-center. They are not liberal in any respect.
Secondly, they have no interest in public discourse. They want to tell you what to do. See our present Congress as an example. The “liberals” have no interest in differing opinions. They prefer to persecute people who disagree with them. Trust me, I’ve been watching these people for forty years.
More recently, many of their ilk have reverted to a nearly 100-year old appellation, namely: "progressive". I find the term a preferable description for the Obamanauts, even though it wrongly assumes that Progress points ever Leftward. It does, however capture the overtly anti-business and Prohibitionist sentiments of an earlier age, where a loose coalition of socialists, communists and anarchists promoted Utopian visions of a New Man in a New World, much as do their descendants.
Inspired themselves by a philosophical tradition stretching from Rousseau to the French Revolution and the European uprisings of 1849, the first American generation of Progressives helped to unleash the historical forces that resulted in World War I, the Russian revolution, and, ultimately, the rise of Nazi Germany from the ashes of a once-stable, but suddenly shattered world order.
This ain’t a “new” trend. Liberals have been nasty for years. All one had to do was follow DemocraticUnderground, DailyKOS, or HuffingtonPost to know this.
OKAY....would you explain that graphic, please....
our silence in the face of the imperative loss of our freedoms
Most came through political correctness ... PC (a policy foisted upon us year after year) on going
our failure to stand up, when God was taken our of our schools; and then else where ...
our tractable acceptance of abortion; and all its tentacles which are many ...
our complacency in the face of open borders: allowing our systems to be overwhelmed by illegals (there is a legal pathway for those that desire to come ...)
Our system of lifelong welfare for so called substandard living for single Mothers; and for the people that can work and do not,, rather sits home in front of the TV or is out breaking laws, while waiting for the welfare check to come in the mail. Who can blame them for not wanting it taken away? Human nature likes it the easy way. AND THEY ARE AMNY! The seeds of our doom have been sown for years and we fail to notice and if we do notice ... we fail to take any meaningful action. We are getting what we say we want. HOW DO YOU LIKE IT? WHAT ELSE IS NEW? huh? The change in attitude about the government spending billions of dollars wastefully without over-site in the War in Iraq! No out cry from the people. I was told by a friend of the President Bush, that when this mammoth expenditure was asked about, the President replied ... "pay no attention to that."
we always have reasons ... excuses...
What can I do about it anyway?
Who cares? I'm doing well.
Our leader know what they are doing and I trust them (real naivete
. This is redundant. I know. However, we must stop doing the same thing ... hoping for a different result. The GOP needs the strong hearted, the brave; and the intelligent to step forward and remake the Republican Conservative Party. An honest man or woman sees no place for them in Washington. We have a corrupt system. God can do anything. Jesus tells/exampled how to live: We have not because we ask not; and when we do ask we ask amiss. read James 4:1-17.

It is known as selective ammnesia. What ever they said for 8 years is null and void. They are in the euphoric we won state of mind which is the 1st sign of selective ammnesia.
AHHH.....I LIKE it!
We need bumper stickers made with that.....
No, it’s a concept that bears repeating - often...

_________
I wish they would give me a call. I’ll show them the real definition of hate speech.
one of the popular bumper stickers in the past 8 years of the smug liberal, is “dissent is the highest form of patriotism”. havent seen any of those since election day.
wonder if they feel a little guilty scraping them off their cars?
I doubt it. that would require free thought, conscience, sense of right / wrong , etc,, nah, nevermind.
Hopefully another newspaper soon to be extinct.
Is it “hate speech” to say “I really hate that guy!” whenever I see Nobama’s ugly mug and his flapping jaws? I suppose “ugly mug” and “flapping jaws” are hate speech, too.
I’m sure Obama/Pelosi/Reid have a Federal Hate Speech Law on their agenda.
California and Pennsylvania have them already.
