Fifteen hospital workers have been fired and a further 8 disciplined for improperly accessing the medical records of the mother who recently gave birth to octuplets, Nadya Suleman.
A spokesman for the Kaiser Permanente medical facility in Bellflower, California, confirmed the dismissals, stating the high-profile nature of the case left them susceptible to breaches of this nature.
"We knew from the time she (Miss Suleman) was admitted to the hospital in December, this case would attract attention", Jim Anderson said.
"Even though no one knew she was there, they knew she was going to have a lot of babies."
The hospital conducted "numerous training sessions" to remind workers of the importance of patient confidentiality, Mr Anderson went on, adding that eight employees had also faced "significant" punishment as part of their disciplinary procedures for allegedly "snooping" on Miss Suleman's files.
An internal inquiry proved that employees had not divulged medical information to the media, Mr Anderson said, but had, in some cases, accessed the records to satisfy personal curiosity.
The 33-year-old, who was already a single mother of six before the octuplets were conceived via in-vitro fertilisation, is not planning legal action against the hospital, according to her lawyer Jeff Czech.
"She trusts Kaiser, and they said they'd look into it," Czech told the Los Angeles Times. "We feel that they're on top of it and are taking care of it." He added that his client believed hospital staff were seeking to establish the name of her sperm donor, whose identity is still not known. Medical records did not contain this information, he said.

If the Obama rule about receiving taxpayer paid “bailouts” leads to loss of privacy of business decisions -— then why is this broodmare entitled to any privacy related to her taxpayer funded baby manufacturing fetish?
She has the right to privacy - ONLY if she’s paying her own way..
Once she becomes a “ward of the state”, then the taxpayers have a right to know exactly what we’re paying for and why.
