An outcry is growing in Alexandria over a prospect no one seems to like: terrorist suspects in the suburbs. This Story

* Security Worries in the Suburbs * A Developing Problem

The historic, vibrant community less than 10 miles from the White House markets itself as a "federal friendly zone." But it has turned decidedly unfriendly to news that the Obama administration might move some detainees from their highly controlled military fortress at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to Alexandria to stand trial at the federal courthouse.

"We would be absolutely opposed to relocating Guantanamo prisoners to Alexandria," Mayor William D. Euille (D) said. "We would do everything in our power to lobby the president, the governor, the Congress and everyone else to stop it. We've had this experience, and it was unpleasant. Let someone else have it."

Alexandria ready to serve illegals

Tuesday, October 9, 2007

"The city of Alexandria, Va., is expected to pass a resolution tonight renewing its commitment to extend public services to illegal aliens.

'We are reaffirming and recommitting our services and outreach to international citizens,' Mayor William D. Euille, a Democrat, said yesterday."

From The Washington Times last October.

It never freaking fails to amaze me.

They elect democrats to power then are outraged at what democrats do.

What blithering idiots.

I’m sure Alexandria has a high percentage of Obummer voters.

Let them eat sh1t.

I posted it the day it was in the paper, but it bears repeating. The mayor was a huge BO supporter and donor. He is getting just what he asked for, as is 70 percent of the voters in the People’s Republic of Alexandria. They are going to have a cluster event of major proportions in Alexandria if they move any of those trials here.

How much do the locals not want the Federal prisoners? Would they withdraw any local or state law enforcement support, for instance? Could the state assert authority to refuse a Federal prisoner transfer? These GITMO prisoners should never set foot in the US.

Oh...maybe you are right. The curious congressional types can run out for a lunch-time snack and interview with the bad-boys. The media should just love the reduction in travel expenses. Win-win

Alexandria is a stronghold of leftist Democrats. I hope they move all 250 prisoners there. Alexamdria deserves it.

I’d say about 75%.

Agreed. 71/27 margin for Zero sure looks like a cesspool to me. They wanted it, let them have it.

I think the Washington, D.C. area is an excellent place for the prisoners, since the Federal government wants to move them here. Let them sit in the Federal government’s backyard.

They’ll probably stick the prisoners in some Republican county.

Sorry about the repeat. But I just stumbled upon the story today. I so hate that my native VA went blue...it really made me a sick election night.

I am very sorry for any FReepers in the Northern VA area as this is a terrible thing. But if they had to put these horrible animals anywhere, I am at least glad that it is in a big old concentration of Zero voters. They had better HOPE that these creatures do not get out or that Obama CHANGES his mind about where they will be jailed.
