Florida Gov Shuts Down Tea Party - (Too many might show) (NOT Satire)
Tax Day Tea Party ^ | 3/30/09 | Eric Odom

(SNIP)

You don’t remember that pre-revolutionary history? I should say you shouldn’t, because it didn’t happen. But flash forward a few hundred years and you’ll find it is happening today in Cape Coral, Florida where city officials canceled a tax day tea party gathering because they “feel too many people could show-up.”

That’s right, folks, the God-given, long-held American right to assemble and protest the actions of our government has been canceled due to too much popularity of the protest.

People need to show up. Forget the organizers. Just show up with a sign saying, “We are here to redress grievances.”

Some may be arrested. This is how our system works. The government puts down freedom to peaceably assemble. We get to look at the constitution again. Dust it off and see what it says.

If the government continues to restrict freedom of speech and freedom to peaceably assemble, freedom to complain about government, the people should overthrow the government. It says so in the constitution. I think some call it a revolt. Ironically, it is what made this country in the first place and for over 200 years, made it what it used to be.

Go anyway. If you don’t, then you didn’t really have any commitment in the cause in the first place.

“But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.”

I recall reading that the "local authorities" have denied permits not the Governor.

Why would the Governor get involved in local permitting, besides, why would anyone need a permit to exercise a peaceful protest or free speech?

I don't see where the governor did this. Wouldn't be surprised if he did... wait to confirm.

Where can I find the upcoming locations for these rallies. I’ve never protested in my life but am now moved to do so. Nothing else is working.

The time to go down to the nest where these rats lurk. Strip them naked and drive them from office accompanied by “The Singing Whips.”

Somehow I got a feeling that if it was an anti-war there would have been no problem with the number of people.

This shows a tremendous amount of disrespect... They figure they can push us around because we’re well behaved, law abiding nice folks. It’s time to get in their faces!!!

>It says so in the constitution.

Actually I think that’s the Declaration of Independence that says such... but I’ll gladly look up the section of the Constitution where you believe it says that.

I can't believe that the same country that elected Ronald Reagan in a landslide who then brought the Soviet Empire to destruction is so gleefully skipping it's way to Socialism.

I'm having a hard time remembering when the last time a Code Pink rally was shut down because they feared "too many" would attend.

Can someone please help refresh my memory?
