New Mormon anti-freeper site and campaign to bankrupt FR
rumor mill | March 29, 2009 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 03/29/2009 2:35:03 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

I understand there is a new anti-freeper site started by disgruntled former and present Mormon FReepers and it is their intention of bankrupting FR during the coming Freepathon by withholding their donations and disrupting our activities. Well, all I can say is, if they feel that badly against FR, by all means they should withhold their donations and drop out of FR. But it they attempt to disrupt our operations I will guarantee they will no longer be members of FR. If that is their wish, so be it.

I'm not going to try to defend FR from their claims of religious persecution, but I will say that Mormons have and always have had free reign to post their threads on FR just as all other religious groups have enjoyed. Free Republic defends the right to freedom of religion and has always welcomed religious discussion and always will. And Mormons have always been welcome here. I have absolutely nothing against Mormons.

If you are one who has left or is leaving, I wish you well, but disruption of FR is not welcome and will not be tolerated.

And this is not the first time such activity has been attempted by groups of disgruntled former FReepers. Good luck with that. There is always some group that feels FR should be bent to their way of thinking and end up saying my way or the highway. Well, I don't know about you, but I'm not changing so I guess it's the highway. Is it Feb 8 yet?

God bless.

I have absolutely nothing against Mormons.

I can vouch for that, Jim.

The only remark I ever had pulled on Free Republic was a retort I gave to the late, unlamented (by me, anyway) Illbay that was apparently reported by him as "anti-Mormon."

I can recall when pro-mcain posters were called trolls here.

“I always felt Mormons took a lot of heat here, BUT they got a fair, honest and OPEN forum to state their views and beliefs.”

Not so. Or more so, depending on outlook.
Check out how many threads are posted using the magic words “devotional”
or “caucus”.. that means no conflicting opinion will be allowed.
Comments are deleted. It’s a kind of bizarre cowardice and usage
of rules to gain a bully pulpit. No other group does this
to such an extent.

Well, if it’s true, that’s too bad. I’ve never had any trouble politely agreeing, disagreeing, or ignoring Mormons (depending on the context) on FR.

Read this part again: “Free Republic defends the right to freedom of religion and has always welcomed religious discussion and always will.”

That’s really not the answer.

Indeed, it’s the inverse of the answer. Freedom of speech is just that — freedom, for pro- and con- mormons.

It is pathetic that a group of mormons want to quiet critics of their church when they have equal ability to provide their side of the story at the same location.

And silencign critics by such dishonest means is very telling of what kind of people they are. Not a pretty picture for their religion.

Such activity will only diminish them in the eyes of the Lord.

What should we be watching for as far as “disruption”? And, do you know what we did to offend them beyond repair? Everybody gets their chops busted once in a while...I say grow up and toughen up.

First, for the record, I waved goodbye to organized religion a while ago.

I have read through the Mormon devotionals quite a few times and frankly, as an ex-Christian, I saw much that could be filed under “holier than thou”.

I think all religious posts should be disallowed, or given defined sections of FR within which to post away from the main public traffic.

It will always end badly. If not just because someone is going to feel slighted, ignored, abused, etc.

“Holier than thou” is a built-in factor in all religion. It’s like putting Betta fish together. Eventually, it will go sour.

Mormons have been hit a lot by people here who say they are not what they say they are, and denigrate their religions and customs. FR is a part of my life but if they were ripping Judaism as much here as they did Mormonism, I’d not feel comfortable here either. Freedom of religion. But freedom to comment on it too. Within the framework of us all being on the same team.

With that said, it is atrocious for these people to attempt to hurt FR, even if they felt put upon here.

What I try to do is to counteract IN WORDS when I see people verging on the offensive. Fellow FReepers, I suggest you do the same, even if it’s not YOUR affiliation that’s being insulted. Just step in and ask if they’d want their beliefs/race attacked in this way.

For example, I see on some of the mocking Obama threads some racist jokes. I am personally offended by them. There is a googolplex of humor opportunities in the Obama presidency that don’t involve traditional racist cracks. Of course one can and should mock political correctness and hypocrisy about race (see Rush Limbaugh and Magic Negro)! But leave out the crude 1940s style racial references, please. What a horrible thing for black conservatives to see; don’t they get enough racism from liberals??

It could be well be someone wanting to cause friction between FR and Mormons.

I have family members who are Mormons and I haven’t seen anything on FR to offend the Mormon faith. If I’ve missed it I would like for someone to e-mail the links to me where it took place.

****

I agree it is not how an LDS is to conduct themselves!

I'm with you Jim.

I assume most freepers have no idea what my religion is and I hope to keep it that way.
I stay away from all religious nut articles and posts.

I certainly won't miss them.

Another atheist who wants religion banned. Is there any group that hates more than atheists?

It thinks it is superior becauseit stopped believing in God.

Proudly proclaims itself as a former christian like it’s a badge of honor.

And wants religious talk banned.

How disgusting.

Just like the communists. Atheism=communism.

Where is your proof? I am on many Mormon ping lists and I have not heard anything about this. This sounds like a creative way to get people riled up against Mormons. I expect better than just accusations and rumors. I have not had any problem donating to FR since 2001.
