I don't know that a non Catholic would be familiar with the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe. As a Catholic, I'll give her a break on this one. The way the image is framed makes it look similar to a painting and it's location high above the altar most probably precludes closer inspection. I do think however that her aides are falling down on the job not to have briefed her ahead of time as to the story surrounding the image. She could have even gone on line herself and found the story.

Kinda funny but she is not Catholic. She is Methodist so I doubt she learned about this in Bible School. However, her assistants should have briefed her.

Dan Quayle was deliberately targeted and skewered by the press, much as they did and are doing to Sarah Palin.
Sarah I agree, but I can’t believe a second grader was out to get Dan Quayle...kind of a stretch don’t you think...lol.

If the old girl senile or simply stupid? It’s hard to tell sometimes.

The second grade teacher handed the card, with the misspelled word to him.

Really? Maybe she needed to be made fun of.

More evidence that 0’bama’s people at State are out to embarrass her. Granted, she's a nasty ditz, but State if full of people who know better. Sabotage, I say.

Hillarys not Catholic. Neither am I but if I am going to visit a shrine or attend a service of a faith not my own I know enough to RESEARCH a bit so I do not offend the believers.
Hillery's staff should be doing this kind of thing for her. That they either are not doing their job or she is not listening is worrying.

Oh thank you so much for the good laugh! I’m going to spread that.

I wouldn’t normally, but in this case I cut Hillary a bit of slack on this.
I’m not a Catholic (yet) and I didn’t know that the Lady of Guadaloupe wasn’t painted by someone, but appeared mysteriously. And to be truthful I’m not yet convinced it did — but I’m not convinced it didn’t either. I can easily see why Hillary wouldn’t know this.
Sure, as Secretary of State it should have been her business to know this: she gets paid the big bucks to know these things, and she has the staff who are also paid big bucks to make sure she is well briefed and doesn’t embarrass herself and the rest of America.
But on the assumption that it was a spur-of-the-moment thing (she should avoid those) her lack of knowledge is understandable.

Doesn't she have people to prepare her? In her ingnorance, she managed to pick the stupidest of all possible questions. Good work, people.

Yes the teacher had potato spelled “potatoe” on a big flash card.

Bless you, you're very fair-minded, DieHard.
You're right: she should avoid those spur-of-the-moment things. A closed mouth catches no flies.
It's what they call "diplomacy."

"This has always been my favorite picture of Mary."Mine too. Twelve years in Catholic school in the fifties and sixties exposed me to a lot of nuns and a lot of holy card pictures of the Blessed Mother and various saints. The nuns would hand them out as rewards for a high test grade or perhaps very good behavior. I still have a shoe box almost full of them. Sadly, IMO anyway, by the time my daughter went to Catholic school there were no nuns and some of the lovely traditions inherent with their presence were also missing.
