Critics are calling it unpatriotic to abandon the "Freedom Tower" name for an iconic skyscraper rising at ground zero.
Former Gov. George Pataki gave the 1,776-foot tower its name in a speech two years after the Sept. 11 terror attacks. He says the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is "outrageous" for deciding to call the tower One World Trade Center.

Look at the phrase for the location: 'ground zero'--now it's not even capitalized in remembrance of those who died there?
How quickly people forget! :-( Freedom Tower MEANT something--hoping they change it back after being shamed by the 9/11 families and others!

Freedom Tower was kind of a cheesy name anyway. Naming it the World Trade Center is a bit of sticking it in the terrorists eye’s.

Agreed. And they can’t even rent out the space as it is—thye certainly don’t need a name that makes it harder.

I disagree on ‘cheesy’—maybe they could merge the two names somehow? Just using the address as the title seems to be disrespectful to the memory of those who died there.

Agreed. Besides, freedom is becoming an oxymoron in this country anyway.
It's past time to take it back.

Calling the site "One World" trade center conjurs up images of Wendell Willkie.
No doubt the Port Authority people have no idea where Indiana might be nor that Willie ran as a Republican for President.

The only reason it was renamed was because the chi-coms rented a bunch of floors.
It’s painfully obvious.

I'm tired of the government abusing the term "freedom" anyway. If they want to name a building or a bill "freedom," they had better start giving us back some of ours.
Free country? Please. We are one of the most legislated societies on the planet.

Has there been any progress on that thing, no matter what they call it? By now they should have been able to build 3 of them!!

If you want a real eye opener, compare your "property rights" to that of the average Chinese citizen. I think you'll notice a lot of similarities.

Freedom? What's that anyway...
We want Hope and Change and a nanny state.
Give us Freefrom not Freedom. Freefrom personal responsibility, Freefrom individualism and Freefrom a reason to get up and go to work every the morning.
Freedom... is just some old notion a bunch of dead white guys came up with.

This is what opened my eyes :
In America, the occupants of the house would have been dragged out by a SWAT team and jailed long before the project even started.

Yep. Agreed. Same goes for adding Liberty to Newark International Airport. Plus, anything that sticks it to Pataki after the way he left the Republican Party in ruins in NY is worth it. Reviving the name World Trade Center is better, IMHO.

You're right. I strongly dislike the "1 World..." or "One World..." name. Depending on how you put the emphasis, it conjures up images of one world govt. Forget that! THIS IS AN AMERICAN SITE. Period. It is where we remember the innocent US Citizens who were mercilessly killed by Islamic extremists.
The PC crowd may not like it, but those are the facts. I choose to remember and honor the fallen, not buy into some revisionist PC drivel. I intend to continue to refer to it by the original name.
