"Maybe maybe not. It's debatable, given the state of most young people today, a year or two in the military service of our country, coast guard, Army, Border Patrol, whatever, might not be such a bad thing.

It's not the youth service that is the problem, and you're right, it would undoubtably help many young people to mature and learn about the non-academic world.

But mandatory service is called "slavery" in case you didn't know, and there is nothing debatable about it. Nothing.

And 0 isn't talking about the coast guard, Army, or borders. His plan is for an enormous mob of ACORN-like conscriptees with "more funding than the military."

Wake up.

Ditto!
The Electoral College is the perfect vehicle for the ‘distribution’ of political power ever created!
Tyranny requires the concentration of power!

Actually, yes since I think that anybody who is not taking matters in hand at this point as this man suggests is a coward.

Read that any way you want.

If Obama doesn't hold out his scepter to him, he's in big trouble.

From what I've heard, if President Clinton DID hold out his "scepter" to you, you were in big trouble...

;>)

Sounds like a form of intimidation to me. Wonder what they will tell him.

You might see it that way, but there are other countries that do this. Israel being one.

From an Israeli site.

Service in the Israel Defense Forces is a measure of involvement in the country's life. Most men and single women are inducted into the IDF at age 18, women for two years and men for three, followed by service in the reserves, men up to age 51 and single women to age 24. In February 2006, the Defense Ministry outlined a plan to reduce mandatory service for male soldiers to 28 months.

I have mixed feelings here. (I'm veteran BTW)

But again, given the state of many of our young people, many of which can't even find jobs now, this might be an option, depending on how it worked.

I want to see him summon Alex Jones but obama is too scared.

And what do they mean “summon”? Is that like, two US Marshalls come to your door and say, “Get in the car”? In which case, we the people should say, “Get off my front porch or else”.

I doubt Funbobbasso is going to take any of their guff.

Never watched Basso’s videos until now. I caught “universal service”, hit Pause, and came back to the comments to see if anyone else had caught it. But, I’d completely missed the electoral college comment right before it!

Yes, Obama probably sees this man as his ally.

Really?

Tell ya what, you watch this, and come back here, ping me, and tell me this is Obama’s ally.

I already watched both videos before commenting. All sounded well and good, until around 4:18 in the other video. As some of us have pointed out, that’s where he calls for abolishing the electoral college and bringing back “universal service”. And we all know Obama wants mandatory service.

What's wrong with one man one vote?

Are they afraid the majority will vote for what they demand? And win.

You trust a contrived electoral college, when the simplest form of voting is simply a majority rule?

Most conservatives oppose/opposed the draft. It’s a form of big government, and whoever is in power can use it to his own advantage. Would you want to be required to serve an Obama administration? Also, in the video, Basso doesn’t stop with the military, just as Obama doesn’t, either. They both include “community service” as part of mandatory service. Would you want to be required to serve President Obama in his idea of community service? Who knows what it will turn out to be.

Our family is into volunteering. In volunteering, we pick and choose. Service works better when people who want to do it volunteer for it.

Are you really dragnet2, who has been here since 1998? Or am I talking with someone else who hijacked dragnet2's screenname? I'm suspicious because all conservatives favor the electoral college. It's written into our Constitution. Without an electoral college system, politicians could pander only to the most heavily populated areas of the country. They could campaign in the most heavily populated places, ignore the rest of the country, and promise everything to the biggest cities. Remember what happened in the 2000 election. Imagine if our presidential elections were based on the popular vote, and it was close. The candidates would've been challenging it in the court system, not only in one state, but in precinct after precinct, all across the country, trying to gain a few more votes. A presidential election could go on forever (sort of like the Minnesota race). ;-)

Yes.

It's ironic we push one man, one vote for the rest of the countries of the world...

The electoral college groups voters by state, not rural or urban division.

One man, one vote just does not bother me. The concept of majority rules, is what this country was founded on.

As far as elections, I'd rather see media polling 24 hours preceding elections, be completely banned. It's clear, it's used in attempts to compromise elections. No secret there.

In addition, to showing proof of citizenship to vote. Long over due.

“Yes, Obama probably sees this man as his ally.”

So after viewing both videos here, you still feel Obama sees this individual as his ally?
