An online movie documenting the close ties between ancient pagan religions and today's Christianity is "antichrist" in nature, destroying the faith of believers by combining some astonishing truth with plenty of error.
That's the claim of a Christian historian and author who, ironically, has himself been educating the public about the impact heathen sun worship has had on traditional Christianity.
Richard Rives, author of "Time is the Ally of Deceit" and "Too Long in the Sun," is sounding the alarm about "Zeitgeist," a 2007 documentary written and narrated by Peter Joseph, a freelance film editor, composer and producer in New York City.
Literally meaning "spirit of the time," "Zeitgeist" was released on DVD and the Internet, and Joseph claims it has been viewed more than 50 million times on Google Video, and more than 100 million times when other formats and public screenings are taken into account.

“Krishna belonged to the royal family of Mathura, and was the eighth son born to the princess Devaki, and her husband Vasudeva.” (Wikipedia). Not a virgin birth.
“But the Olympian gods, fearing Agdistis, cut off the male organ and cast it away. There grew up from it an almond-tree, and when its fruit was ripe, Nana ...picked an almond and laid it in her bosom. The almond disappeared, and she became pregnant. Nana abandoned the baby (Attis). ..Attis went mad and cut off his genitals. ...Attis was reborn as the evergreen pine.” (Wikipedia). Sort of a virgin birth, with a penis-almond involved. Definitely not a crucifixion. Not exactly a resurrection. Transformation into a plant - laurel tree, reeds, narcissus - is a common Greek element.
I never heard of it until now.
Antichrist (pinch of poop) Ping!
Holy Spirit makes Faith Strong in the inner man of the individual putting God first in all their ways to the best of their capacities to do so.
imho.
OK, try Perseus next.
Exactly, this whole thing is a bunch of hogwash.
Thanks.
Had an impression in my spirit about the movie that it was not worth touching.
Glad my sense was right.
Thanks for the ping.
horrific nonsense, imho.
The ancients knew different, they knew the old mythologies well, and if the Gospels were just a plagiarism of them, they would have been rejected outright.
“Deception is part of the plan. And the sheeple are very easy to deceive.”
It is, and they are, and both were demonstrated together last November, in the Presidential election.
Anyone well grounded in scripture would recognize Christmas, Easter, steeples, and other traditions for what they are, too.
Isreal wasn’t tricked into baal worship instantly or by it being obviously evil.
Christians are no different.
*ping*
You’re going to want to read the article, and responses here kiddo. ;^)
There does seem to always be some contingent of young people who latch on to the the fact that the Dec. 25th date was borrowed form paganism - quite as if they’ve discovered some sort of secret.
But that doesn't necessarily mean that the Gospels were plagiarized from Gilgamesh, Perseus, or other myths. It just means that men fathered by gods are a common theme in world religion.
Being an old deaconess of the Faith (in Jesus Christ),
I see these films come and go. I also expect new
(and allbeit Biblically illiterate) believer’s to pitch
themselves into a frothy outrage.
Our best defense is to pray that God would put a shield
of confusion over the uninitiated who see the movie.
Ask God to pour out His light on that dark place, that
darkness cannot dwell with light. Seems to me it would
be pretty difficult to view a movie with the Light of
Christ shining everywhere.
Our next defense is to quit talking about it with
reactive outrage. It only kindles curiousity and fuels
interest in this kind of filth.
I have learned to be still and know that God is in
control.
His always... Jo
Christianity never “took” anything from Mithraism..
WISE WORDS.
THx.
Sun god worship is no stranger to the God of Israel. Mythology has been around for a long time, imitating the promise of God. One of those gods that has received tremendous attention lately is Allah, known in earlier days as Enlil, now stripped of his daughter/wife Allat/Ninlil, and reduced to a moon god. They are everywhere, prolific over the ages and just as prolific today. The women of Israel were weeping for Tamuz. The doctrine of Baalam has plagued the Church since the beginning. It’s the same old garbage believers have always had to deal with, the same old new age stuff that won’t go away.
I agree. If we are saved, it is His strength, not ours that preserves our faith. We cannot fail.
Perseus, son of Danae, prophesied to kill his grandfather. Hence gf immured Danae in bronze chamber with small hole for food and drink. Danae visited by Zeus in a shower of gold.
Now I don’t think that the Greeks thought that Zeus just sparkled on Danae for a couple seconds and wafted up through the hole again. Not in character. Zeus liked his ladies; he took bodily form and enjoyed her.
Not a virgin birth. Killing mother’s father, not a Christian element.
