My wife was naturalized into a US citizen today. It was a rather bitter-sweet experience.
It started out with the star spangled banner and some patriotic songs.
Then they listed the countries of the 192 new citizens. Unfortunately, Somalia and Ethiopia had the most citizens (about 40 each), Vietnam and Thailand both had about 25. Surprisingly, my wife was one of the few hispanics. I guess, why bother doing that pain in the butt for something you can get the same benefits for nothing. Probably a handful of Caucasians getting naturalized but there sure were a lot of burcas!
Some liberal woman judge gave the speech that ticked me off immensely. She told the new citizens that our country's strength is based on "diversity and tolerance". No reference to liberty, duty, responsibility, sacrifice, loyalty of course. What the heck exactly is tolerance anyhow? You can only have tolerance for something annoying or bad can't you?
This hag then told everyone that our "democracy only works when everyone gets involved in the political like we saw back in November"
Next, they played a video of Obama speaking--I'm pretty sure it was his inauguration speech, which sucked since I took pride in missing this "historic event". At this time, I let my 2 year old loose and run around like a pill until this video was over.
The service ended with the music "I'm proud to be an American" song playing which raised my spirits a bit.
Sadly, I bet a very small number of those new Americans will be Sarah Palin voters in 2012.
Now she can run for President. :-)
Good on her!
Why should Ethiopians be a problem? Most of them are Christians. Then again they will probably vote for the Kenyan President in African-to-African loyalty.
Congratulations to both of you!
A most hearty CONGRATULATIONS to you and the wife and associated Family etc.
I was naturlized in 1994 when I saw the CLINTOON debacle, I wanted to vote him OUT!! We all know how that went.
Naturalized citizens, I believe, hold America a little more close to their hearts. Nothing against the natural born Americans, unlike OBOZO, but immigrants KNOW the other side of the fence where there is no FREEDOM.
The USA in the WORST condition is 100x better than any other country in the history of the world.
IMHO...

Congratulations
My wife was naturalized in 04 in time to see the republic end in 09
Something we take for granted she fought to win!
The Somalis are a big problem in my city.
Congratulations to your wife. I know it was long hard road.
First of all congratulations to your wife and you as well.
Remember, the ceremony is just a ceremony. The real pleasure and joy of being a citizen is an everyday event. Just make sure that both of you work to overcome the basis for whatever that hag judge said. That can be you both fulfilling your duty as a real citizen.
As for the Somalis and Ethiopians, Ive got no problem with it as long as they become citizens. They probably know moare about our laws/constitution than the average lifetime natural born citizen.
She done good.
Jury duty should not be far from now.
Did it hurt?
That is great, now get her to get a CCW.
I don't know. I've had a driver's license for 30 years, a passport for 33 years, and been a registered voter for 28 years. I've never been called. Ever.
Oh that’s good then! Geographic ignorance I guess!
There are two kinds of people in this world. Americans, and those who wish they were.
Congratulations to both of you.
