We took risk over anti-missile shield deal, says Sikorski
Created: 23.03.2009 08:30
Polands foreign minister said Sunday that when Warsaw and Washington signed the anti-missile shield agreement in August last year they were assured by the American side that the issue was a non-controversial one and that Moscow would be persuaded that it was for defensive purposes only.
Russia has strongly opposed the idea from the beginning, however, even threatening to station its own missile system in Kaliningrad, near the Polish border, in response.
Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski made the remarks when in Brussels, after the EU spring summit.
"We signed with the old [Bush] administration; we patiently wait for the new administration, and we hope we don't regret our trust in the United States," he told reporters.
Poland is currently waiting on the review of the system by President Barack Obama into the feasibility and cost of the anti-missile system that is planned to be installed in northern Poland. The Czech parliament, last week, decided to delay a vote on placing the radar part of the system near Prague until the Obama administration has a clearer idea of how they want to proceed.
Concern about the future of the anti-missile system grew in Warsaw and Prague after it was revealed that President Obama had sent a letter to the Kremlin offering to drop the idea in return for a more robust attitude from Moscow on Irans bid to develop nuclear power. After taking a risk over the issue the Polish government is feeling it may be left out to dry.

Agreements mean nothing to democrats. Many on Free Republic are probably too young to remember how the democrats bailed on the support they were giving South Vietnam resulting in the deaths of over a million people. These democrats simply have no honor, no morality, no dignity. They are evil incarnate.

My hatred of all things socialist cannot even compare to the shame I have in the very poor leadership being demonstrated in Washington. Again I must apologize Lizol, we have left our dear FRiend Poland out on a limb twice in the last hundred years. God save us all...

The obamination will gleefully throw the Poles to the Russian dogs.
He will claim "unproven" missile defense, in order to use the savings to buy perpetual power with free, rotting scraps to his kool-aid drinking rats.

Hate to say it, but you got screwed again, Poland. We are not to be trusted, unfortunately. There are too many idiots in this country who are happy to elect idiots.
