President Obama yukked it up again when he discussed the economy on "60 Minutes" last night, prompting his interviewer to ask whether leading the nation during a recession has made him "punch drunk."
The president laughed he later called it "gallows humor" at several points, particularly when he talked about pumping more money into General Motors and Chrysler.
"I just want to say that the only thing less popular than putting money into banks is putting money into the auto industry," he said.
Interviewer Steve Kroft interjected, "You're sitting here. And you are laughing. You are laughing about some of these problems. Are people going to look at this and say, 'I mean, he's sitting there just making jokes about money'?"
"Are you punch drunk?" Kroft asked.
"No, no," the president replied. "There's got to be a little gallows humor to get you through the day. If you had said to us a year ago that the least of my problems would be Iraq which is still a pretty serious problem I don't think anybody would have believed it."
On Thursday night, Obama appeared on "The Tonight Show" and cracked jokes about his bowling, the pending first dog and his job.
