OAKLAND -- Four Oakland police officers were shot and seriously wounded this afternoon after a car stop went bad, police sources reported.
Two of the officers were gunned down outside their patrol car after they pulled over a car in the 7400 block of MacArthur Boulevard, not far from the Eastmont Town Center. Another officer reported was shot while in pursuit of the suspect. It was not clear where the fourth officer was shot. A suspect was later reported to also have been shot.

The last time I remember four CA officers from one agency getting shot and killed on the same day was the CHP Newhall shooting in 1970.
another sad day for law enforcement ion California.
Live news conference on now, 9PM PT, Channel 2 KTVU

>>You brought to mind this quote by William S. Burroughs:
“After a shooting spree, they always want to take the guns away from the people who didn’t do it. I sure as hell wouldn’t want to live in a society where the only people allowed guns are the police and the military.” >>
Burroughs was right about a lot of things .
Thanks for the change of title
The perp name — 27 year old parole Lovelle Mixon
The gunman, a Mr. Lovelle Mixon was pronounced dead at the scene. Three officers dead, one still in critical condition, a fifth officer received a superficial wound during the entry.
There's a stretch of I-80 from Sacto to Davis that is dedicated to two CHP officers who were killed by a guy named Luis Rodriguez.
I met one of the officer's wives while working on their pool. She was very normal considering what had recently taken place. We talked about what had happened and how losses are so often unpredictable, and I'll never forget how steadfast she was. She was strong and willing to deal with what had been dealt her. Still, I could see a woman who'd just lost her husband of maybe twenty years or so. There was no hiding that fact.
She had some things to take care of, and one was getting rid of a refridgerator, which I gave her fourty bucks for (I think) and hauled away a few days later. Not a lot of help, but a little thing that made moving a bit easier on her. The family was available, but for me it was an honor to lend a hand.
She could have been my big sister, know what I mean?
Unacceptable!
Terrible, terrible news.
What?! You mean the nice man who was portrayed in the Disney movie The Color of Friendship? How could that be???
I’m wondering if it was one of those gang bangers who joined the military to get more training to use out on the street.
I hear they’re doing a lot of that these days.
No, I take that back.
I guess he was just a banger.
I was just wondering how one guy did that much damage, that’s all.
Do you still live there?
"(Mixon) was on parole and he had a warrant out for his arrest for violating that parole. And he was on parole for assault with a deadly weapon," said Oakland police Deputy Chief Jeffery Israel.
Police said they did not know why the officers initially stopped the suspect, but said it apparently was a routine traffic stop. Thomason said Mixon had an "extensive criminal history" and was wanted on a no-bail warrant.
Exactly.
I blame Republicans in the Legislature and Republicans, conservatives and whites for ‘turning their backs’ on ‘social problems’ that we all ‘must face together, as a community’. And, of course, racism.
And the War in Iraq.
And George Bush.
bla, bla, bla.
(Remember those two bank robbers with all the body armor, and the police shot one, and it took ‘a while’ for the area too be ‘cleared’ and the guy died after a few hours on the street? Well for years the left has tried to stop the death penalty, and in a way, I think the cops have a la old west style worked their way around it. Kill the guy with SWAT and if any puke lawyer/left/Black Nationalist wants to break the shutdown area until justice is done, good luck to them.)
Not enough KIA cops, but it sets the stage for a true “assault weapon rampage” which is bound to happen, just statistically in a nation this big.
Exactly, if there is a crime they rush to take guns away from everyone who DIDN’T do it. Even more ridiculous is taking away guns from our country so that Mexican drug gangs will stop shooting each other. These cartels make BILLIONS of dollars. They can afford whole boatloads of real machine guns, grenades and ordnance and there are plenty of countries all too glad to sell it to them. News stories all the time state that Mexican gangs were found with grenades, RPGs etc. They don’t buy that stuff from Texas gun shows. Pelosi claims that 90% of their weapons come from the US. Riiiight. And they will be good and get landscaping jobs if we just pass another US gun law.
1. Maybe all the training, skill and gear that define SWAT teams is highly overrated.
2. Perp shot through a closet door, got "lucky".
