The Dirty Little Secret Is Out: Religious Faith and Evolution Are Incompatible
ICR ^ | March 20, 2009 | Frank Sherwin, M.A.

Posted on 03/20/2009 7:59:40 PM PDT by GodGunsGuts

In a recent book review, Jerry Coyne, professor of ecology and evolution at the University of Chicago, admitted that the secular worldview of macroevolution (the development of complex life from “simpler” forms) is at odds with Christian faith...

>>Your first love is clearly science,
>>and God is secondary to you.

“Clearly” to you perhaps. But not from where I’m sitting.

Because you are unable to reconcile otherwise; you conclude that macro evolution is evil.

Is that not an example of the application of the very thing which Adam and Eve traded paradise for in the first place: THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL?

Absolutely every sin of the Catholic Church has an equal or greater sin in the Protestant Reformation.
Catholics were also persecuted.
Catholic Bibles were also outlawed.
Catholic Priests were tortured and killed.

King Henry the 8th founded the Anglican Church. Later, the Anglican Church authorized the King James version of the Bible. Do you REALLY think that Henry the VIII is a role model as the head of ANY religion? Henry, and the Kings after him, persecuted Catholics relentlessly.

Your Pious, one sided view of history is appalling.

The Salem Witch Trials were not done by Catholics.

This does not mean that the Puritans had no positive contributions, but -— you must understand one point: EVERY SIN OF EVERY FAITH IS A HUMAN SIN!

We are all Human.

Every faith is made up of Humans.

Every single denomination, of every faith, Christian and non-Christian, has countless human sins to answer for.

However, the theology of the Catholic Church is sound. Individuals HAVE misused and abused their power, within the Church, and that is an entirely separate issue.

There were heretics at the time of the Inquisition. There were many who wanted to bring down the Christian faith. Unfortunately, human weakness took over and we all know the rest.

However, it is absolutely wrong to judge any Religion by the acts of a few.

Judge a religion by its entire record, and its total impact on the world.

There would be NO Christian religion at all, if not for the organizational leadership and the absolute protection of that faith, by the Catholic Church.

Protestants would have nothing to protest against, if not for the Mother Church, the Church of Rome, which was the FIRST Christian Faith. Do you discount the teaching authority of pre-Christian Judaism? Why not? Did not the Jews frequently make mistakes? Did not the Jews frequently fall to Idolatry and, in the case of King David, a few other sins as well? You are a pious, judgmental person with very little understanding of human nature, far too much pride in yourself, and no understanding of history.

The “revelations” in the Book of Revelation is mostly history, as most of Revelation's revelations have gone down already?

Happy?

You would have made a good Catholic Nun!

>>What did spiders catch in their webs before the fall?

Probably the same thing they catch now.

What do YOU think they caught; air-borne fruit and veggies? What did they use their sting for - to anesthetize fast moving asparagus?

Moving along,

How do you explain the female morphology of XY (male) human embryos?

The Salem Witch Trials were not done by Catholics.

The Salem Witch Trials are now being thought to be more a matter of physical causes than spiritual.

The rye crop of that year was infected with a fungus called ergot.

Ergot is a vasco-constrictor and can cause some very bizarre symptoms, including hallucinations, irrational behavior, and convulsions.

Subjecting ergot to moderate levels of heat, as in bread baking, produces a mild, weal form of LSD.

There's current speculation that the whole issue had physiological causes.

(as related to me by someone taking forensics at a local university)

Coulda happened to anybody. Just a thought....

From excrement to implied gender crossing. Interesting, for a conservative Christian.

There is no prenatal "female" morphology for male children in the womb. Mullerian ducts, Wolffian ducts, one develops, one wastes away due to genetic and hormonal influences. If you want to call a genital bud female because it's not a penis, you'll be mistaken.

I’ve seen speculation of ergot poisoning being behind some of the more bloody manifestations of the French Revolution.

>>one wastes away due to genetic and hormonal influences.

And adult XY humans with androgen insensitivity syndrome - what morphology to they manifest? Are they recognized as male or female by appearance?

In fact, though sterile, they are ultra-female in appearance. This is because they have virtualy none of the male characteristics that are dependent upon testosterone.

Oh and BTW - these facts were taught in LCMS university Biology classes more than 20 years ago; which is where I learned them.

"A Thoroughbred mare was presented for stallion-like behavior. Reproductive and ultrasonographic evaluation, testosterone assays, and karyotyping confirmed a diagnosis of androgen insensitivity syndrome (64, XY — testicular feminization). Surgery to remove abdominal testicles was successful in alleviating the behavioral abnormality. This condition is discussed with reference to the current literature.
[snip]
Examination of the reproductive tract revealed normal female external genitalia. On trans-rectal palpation neither a cervix nor a uterus was identifiable. Two firm, smooth oval structures were present within the abdomen where ovaries would normally lie."

They have no external genitalia that is identifiably male, as it never developed due to being insensitive to testosterone. They have a shallow indentation in their incompletely fused perineum, that some mistakenly call a vagina. They’re tall and lanky, and after estrogen therapy, more than a few have overcome their birth defect and found success as runway models. Some well known actresses are rumored to have the condition.

Now that you’ve been suitably titillated, back to a question of mine that you’ve evaded. Do you reject the Restoration as implausible, and term it allegorical?

Physical iimperfections or maladies, from birth defects or other causes, are evidence of just what, in your estimation? Are you looking to make the creation of Adam being first suspect now? Why do you even bother touting Special Relativity concerning the six days of Creation, when you clearly disregard everything else in the book?

I did not condemn anyone, did I?

It was a travesty to kill people for nothing more than irrational behavior, that was my point.

But, the people of the time knew nothing of modern medicine or psychology.

It could explain a lot of history.

Another note, for those who like to smear Christianity with screams of witch hunts, is that the practice of witchcraft and killing of witches, is NOT exclusive to Christianity, of which is never was a part.

As a matter of fact, there are places where Christian missionaries put an end to the practice of killing women as witches when they found out about it.

Back to our regularly scheduled programing.

Without testosterone, XY morphology manifests female external characteristics.

It is what it is.
