The first appearance by a sitting president on "The Tonight Show" may well end up being the last.
President Obama, in his taping with Jay Leno Thursday afternoon, attempted to yuk it up with the funnyman, and ended up insulting the disabled.
Towards the end of his approximately 40-minute appearance, the president talked about how he's gotten better at bowling and has been practicing in the White House bowling alley.
He bowled a 129, the president said.
"That's very good, Mr. President," Leno said sarcastically.
It's "like the Special Olympics or something," the president said.
When asked about the remark, the White House said the president did not intend to offend.
"The president made an off-hand remark making fun of his own bowling that was in no way intended to disparage the Special Olympics," White House deputy press secretary Bill Burton said. "He thinks the Special Olympics is a wonderful program that gives an opportunity for people with disabilities from around the world."
Facing tough questions about the performance of his Treasury Secretary, $165 million in bonuses for AIG officials and anticipating a fight over his $3.55 trillion budget, the president has not had a particularly good week, and it's unlikely this will help matters.

That's the good news for the administration...wait until Glenn Beck gets wind of this...he has a 'special needs' child. Beck has three hours of radio AND an hour on FNC tomorrow night. Then there is Sarah Palin...OMG.
President Bush didn’t own the Establishment press cover-up machine.
Pray for America, our Troops and Rebel Republicans
I just skimmed some comments over at the DUmp, and while some DUmmies find the comment offensive there are many more saying stuff like, “Well, Obama will do more for the Special Olympics than Bush ever did. Get over it,” and, “It was just a stupid joke.” Disgusting hypocrites, they know damn well they’d be screaming for impeachment if President Bush had made a vile comment like that.
I posted this comment in another thread but I will post it on this thread too.
I wonder what Governor Palin will think about this comment, considering she is the mother of special needs child.
Expect nothing to come from this, however. The mainstream media has the TOTUS back. They still have a lid on that Irish Prime Minister teleprompter gaffe, aren't they?
If GWB was considered an idiot for his few gaffs, then bammy has to be acknowledged as suffering from profound mental retardation.
Without a teleprompter to do the work of thinking for him, he becomes joe biden with marginally better hair.
If during Katrina, Bush has filled out his Office Pool, went on Leno, and made fun of the disabled... He would have been impeached. Period, end of story.
The kids that compete in the Special Olympics have more integrity and honesty than Obama could lie about having.
I have a disabled grandson, and this irked me too. I’m not into PC talk, but c’mon!!!!!
I also posted this on another thread:
TO HOLLAND
by Emily Perl Kingsley
I am often asked to describe the experience of raising a child with a disability-to try to help people who have not shared that unique experience to understand it, to imagine how it would feel. It’s like this......
When you’re going to have a baby, it’s like planning a fabulous vacation trip-to Italy. You buy a bunch of guidebooks and make your wonderful plans. The Coliseum. The Michelangelo David. The gondolas in Venice. You may learn some handy phrases in Italian. It’s all very exciting.
After months of eager anticipation the day finally arrives. You pack your bags and off you go. The stewardess comes in and says, “Welcome to Holland”.
“Holland?” you say. “What do you mean, Holland? I signed up for Italy! I’m supposed to be in Italy. All my life I’ve dreamed of Italy.”
But there’s been a change in the flight plan. They’ve landed in Holland and there you must stay.
The important thing is they haven’t taken you to a horrible, disgusting, filthy place, full of pestilence, famine and disease. It’s just a different place.
So you must go and buy new guidebooks. And you must learn a whole new language. And you will meet a whole new group of people you would have never met.
It’s just a different place. It’s slower-paced than Italy, less flashy than Italy. But after you’ve been there for a while you catch your breath, you look around, and you begin to notice that Holland has windmills, Holland has tulips, Holland even has Rembrandts.
But everyone you know is busy coming and going from Italy, and they’re all bragging about what a wonderful time they had there. And for the rest of your life, you will say “Yes, that’s where I was supposed to go. That’s what I had planned.”
And the pain of that will never, ever, ever go away, because the loss of that dream is a very significant loss.
But if you spend your life mourning the fact that you didn’t get to Italy, you may never be free to enjoy the very special, the very lovely things about Holland.

Blessings to you and your daughter, Neever, and all our FRiends who have been blessed with ‘special needs’ children.
The man that calls himself POTUS obviously has no compassion or heart, and is an OBAMAnation to our country and it’s people.

I can’t believe that Obama would be so disrespectful of the mentally disabled. Especially since he works with Robert Gibbs every day...
CHANGE.
0bama needs to resign. Remember Macaca?
(Just joking, but whats good for the goose is good for the gander.)
There is no record that the affirmitive action boy can bowl a 100.
It’s in the same cabinet with his school records, Birth Cert and thesis.
Obama is garbage.
Beautifully said. Thank you for posting it.
Can you only imagine what the reaction would be if President Bush had said such a thing? The outcry would be unbelievable. No one will say a thing about it tomorrow.
We watch Leno most nights, but not tonight for sure.
Are you POSITIVE more people who work with the disabled are Democrats? I doubt that. Most people who work with the disabled, I’d say, do so through churches and church outreach, and those people are overwhelmingly Republicans (at least for now, still).
” Ya know...this has really given me the opportunity to see what these children go through every day...I admire their courage - and you should too “
- and the press will declare him the most sensitive president ever.
