The first appearance by a sitting president on "The Tonight Show" may well end up being the last.
President Obama, in his taping with Jay Leno Thursday afternoon, attempted to yuk it up with the funnyman, and ended up insulting the disabled.
Towards the end of his approximately 40-minute appearance, the president talked about how he's gotten better at bowling and has been practicing in the White House bowling alley.
He bowled a 129, the president said.
"That's very good, Mr. President," Leno said sarcastically.
It's "like the Special Olympics or something," the president said.
When asked about the remark, the White House said the president did not intend to offend.
"The president made an off-hand remark making fun of his own bowling that was in no way intended to disparage the Special Olympics," White House deputy press secretary Bill Burton said. "He thinks the Special Olympics is a wonderful program that gives an opportunity for people with disabilities from around the world."
Facing tough questions about the performance of his Treasury Secretary, $165 million in bonuses for AIG officials and anticipating a fight over his $3.55 trillion budget, the president has not had a particularly good week, and it's unlikely this will help matters.

You’re giving the fool way too much credit.
His comment, whether “meant to offend” or not, indicates a mindset. Can you imagine the things he and his wife and others in his circle say when they’re around only each other?
Disgusting, classless comment.
Thanks, Zer0, for once again giving us ammunition to use when libtards call Bush an “idiot.”
Sarah oughta be (at least) verbally kicking the sh*t out of 0 for that comment.
Pointing to the ground in the barnyard, while holding a can of shoe polish in his hand, Dad says, "Son, that is shit and this is Shinola."
Son point to ground and says, "Shit." and points to the can, "Shinola."
"Shit. Shinola. OK Dad! I get it. Thanks a lot"
SPLAT!! (Steps in it.)
He’s unwittingly summing up his entire presidency so far.
I’m sorry, I don’t like Zero but this is a much a do about nothing. I don’t think he meant to offend anybody and this shouldn’t even be an issue.
Nothing to see here, move along now.
I haven't read the whole thread but tell me, do people really come from around the world? For some reason I thought it was kind of a regional competition.
Some of the criticism of Obama has been over the top. However, any criticism he receives for this comment will be well deserved. The comment is vile and demeaning. People with everything from physical disabilities to hearing difficulty enter the Special Olympics.
Wonder how Sarah Palin will react?
Bush would have NEVER been on the Leno show during his Presidency, let alone make such an inept statement.
No it's not. It is another brick in the wall of Obama's fradulent and manufactured image. The clothes are coming off the emperor.
I agree completely... Coming across others during my lifetime (especially when I lived in Chicago) that seem to be of the same ilk as Obama and his wife, I can imagine only too well the type of things they would say out of earshot of their non-loyal associates.
It’s kind of like what my Mom warned me about when I was a child. She said, if you cuss and swear regularly while away from this house eventually it will become second nature and you will swear and cuss without even realizing it. She asked me how I would feel if I were in Church when I “slipped up” and as a young girl it mortified me! Not enough to stop swearing completely, but it did make me aware of my language when I was in Church at least! ;)
One would THINK that Obama would at least be cognizant of the need to choose his words very carefully and would tip-toe and almost fall over himself to be PC like a good liberal... While I welcome the destruction of the unattainable, and ridiculous “PC” behavioral model foisted on us by the Democrats, I can’t help but want to really stick this in their faces...
Not sure why everyone is so surprised at a comment like this when it came from the same guy who wants to get rid of the tax deduction for charities. He is only showing his true colors. This is a perfect opportunity for Americans to make an issue of his total disregard for all charities.
Thank you LFOD for the heads up!
ANYONE WISHING TO BE ADDED TO THE GLENN BECK PING LIST, PLEASE CONTACT ME!
I’d put up those special olympians against him in a swim meet or ice skatin’... Just sayin’...
You can take the kid out of Chicago politics........
I think we would all be aghast at what they speak of when only around each other, or their Ayers-type friends.
Somehow, the drawing of them as terrorists on the cover of that magazine rings more true as time passes.
So Kennedy family, how do you like PBO now?
