Actress Natasha Richardson has died Husband Liam Neeson, sons ‘shocked and devastated’ by loss

BREAKING NEWS

MONTREAL - A spokesman for the family of Natasha Richardson says the actress has died.

Richardson, a gifted and precocious heiress to acting royalty whose career highlights included the film “Patty Hearst” and a Tony-winning performance in a stage revival of “Cabaret,” died after suffering an apparent head injury from a skiing accident. She was 45.

Alan Nierob of Rogers & Cowan said in a statement Wednesday night: “Liam Neeson, his sons, and the entire family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Natasha. They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time.”

“Her mother thought Karl Marx was a greedy capitalist”

He was. He wrote the Manifesto when he was about 12, and it was probably just to piss his father off.

Marx’s greatest quote: I AM NOT A MARXIST!

“Skiing WITHOUT A HELMET is an invitation to a head injury”

This is what I’ve been wondering. Don’t the ski resorts require helmets during lessons? I guess not

He was

Actually you are right. Most self professed communist/ socialist demagogs are greedy capitalists in their private lives. Communism is only for the 'little people'.

Skiing WITHOUT A HELMET is an invitation to a head injury!! As a skiing professional and very successful alpine ski racer I would NEVER ski without a helmet.

This person was on a beginners slope. Helmets started to pick up momentum when snow boarding became all the rage. I've skied for decades, recently returning from a skiing vacation in Colorado. Name a ski resort in CO, UT, ID, or CA ... not to mention VT, NH or Quebec (Mont Tremblant) and I've (probably) skied their slopes. Bottom line ... yeah, you can always make an argument for ski helmets, but then again maybe Americans should never exceed 45 mph on the interstates ... it will save lives.

A couple of days ago. He had had esophageal cancer. He was only 62. Vanessa Richardson is particularly tragic as she made light of her fall. Then an hour later she had a raging headache and went to the hospital. It sounds like a subdural hematoma. Bleeding that slowly presses on the brain. If it is down low in the back it will choke off the brainstem. Very sad. From neighbors comments she was a sweet unaffected person, not a headline grabbing narcissist like many of the celebrities. So sorry for Liam Neeson and children.

We never wore helmets until we took our son skiing. Helmets were a good idea to set an good example for him. They are not comfortable but they are safer. That being said, adults should be able to make these decisions for themselves. Don’t wear a helmet if you don’t want to but accept the consequences if something happens to you.

My dad told me a long time ago that that skier on WWOS didn't even know he was the one on that show until years later.

Not that he didn't know it was himself, just that he didn't know he was on it.

I had NO IDEA Silver died. Just Damn.

Prayers for them both, Silver and Richardson, and for their families. How agonizing for Neeson and his sons...they seemed like the famous couple that would beat the odds and stay together. I bet they would have, too.

I guess I haven’t been lining the pockets of the Hollywood elite enough at the box office because I didn’t even know who she was.

If resorts require helmets they become liable. I think all resorts recommend the use of helmets.

As for young children and helmets, a child's center of gravity is much higher than that of an adult and if the child is very young or very small a helmet that is too heavy can raise the CG and make a small child less stable. There is also the issue of the neck strength that is required to hold up the head.

Helmets with long overhangs such as solid chin guards and long visors can increase the severity of a neck injury if those projections catch on the snow. (or a tree branch)

Sorry to be very blunt! IF YOU SKI AT ANY LEVEL AND DO NOT WEAR A HELMET, YOU ARE AN IDIOT!

I don't know how to do the math but think of an apple on a stick. If you take a 170 cm long pole, the top of the pole travels a greater distance to cover the the 90 degrees to go from vertical to horizontal. How many feet per second is the tip of the pole traveling when it hits the ground in .25 of a second? FAST!! Who can do the math?

Hey, I'm skiing, not driving a Harley down the highway at 80+ mph ... without a helmt, wearing a t-shirt, shorts and flip-flops. In my state you can be ticketed for not wearing a seat belt ... but get a pass if you ride a motorcycle. As I stated in my earlier post, you can stretch safety issues out to absurd lengths ... I accept responsibility for my actions. No problem.
