My dad told me a long time ago that that skier on WWOS didn't even know he was the one on that show until years later.

Helmets have been mandatory in all FIS and USSA downhill races since the late 50’s. They have been mandatory in GS since the 80’s and in SL since the early 90’s.

I wish I could remember which Olympics it was but they did interview the “Agony Of Defeat” skier and he indeed had no idea he was famous for it.
