Apparently, the Obama administration hasnt backed away from its plans to start offloading costs for wounded veterans to third-party insurance, which will make acquiring such insurance nearly impossible. The commander of the American Legion emerged from a meeting with President Obama angered at Obamas insistence on generating revenue from those who sacrificed for American security:
The leader of the nations largest veterans organization says he is deeply disappointed and concerned after a meeting with President Obama today to discuss a proposal to force private insurance companies to pay for the treatment of military veterans who have suffered service-connected disabilities and injuries. The Obama administration recently revealed a plan to require private insurance carriers to reimburse the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in such cases.
It became apparent during our discussion today that the President intends to move forward with this unreasonable plan, said Commander David K. Rehbein of The American Legion. He says he is looking to generate $540-million by this method, but refused to hear arguments about the moral and government-avowed obligations that would be compromised by it.
The Commander, clearly angered as he emerged from the session said, This reimbursement plan would be inconsistent with the mandate to care for him who shall have borne the battle given that the United States government sent members of the armed forces into harms way, and not private insurance companies. I say again that The American Legion does not and will not support any plan that seeks to bill a veteran for treatment of a service connected disability at the very agency that was created to treat the unique need of Americas veterans!

I was an Armor officer and Fort Knox was like my second home. When I went through officer basic, we had a great bunch of Marines training with us. We got along famously — they said they liked us much better than sailors!
Post 64?
Trashing vets and raising insurance costs IN ONE SWOOP. Is this man nuts, stupid, or what?
Some of us are going to need a tailor, a darn good one!
we need a million man march on DC .We should all organize all the different groups that hate this guy and show him we the people want him out .
I’m gonna say this once and I’m gonna shut up about it for the next 8 years - all the FReepers and other folks who couldn’t stand Romney or McCain, who stayed out of the election because no one was conservative enough, this is what you get.
I wasn’t happy about McCain, but I wasn’t going to sit out of the election. Maybe I’m wrong, maybe I’m not as conservative as I like to think I am, but damn, this is what we get folks, when we let the perfect be the enemy of the good.
Could we have gotten a worse president than this man?
I didn't like McCain, Romney or Huckabee...but I held my nose and voted against Obama. Having Sarah on the ballot took some of the sting out.
<voted against Obama. Having Sarah on the ballot took some of the sting out.
Absolutely. I would have cried in the voting booth if not for Palin on the ticket.
Absolutely. I have a tshirt that says “I’m voting for Palin and that guy she’s running with”. I lined out the second line and added “2012”. Truth is McCain would have done much of the same things Obama has done but the House Reps could not vote against him. Fox has been talking all day about how often Obama is saying something he criticized McCain for during the campaign. Megan McCain is out there trashing Palin, Coulter, and Ingraham, calling herself a “progressive Republican”. Please. But this, no President in his right mind would even attempt to mess with wounded warriors during war time. He thinks we’re mad about the budget? He ain’t seen nuthin yet.
Yeah. I retired a year ago from the Navy and my Dress Blue Jacket shrank while hanging in my closet.
Yeah...heard it's was cleaned up long ago and not what it used to be.
Phone line either not picking up or busy!
I have sent my email. [but I think all they will do it delete it anyway!] Keep up the work folks!
Also do not forget to bombard the congress critters with phone calls & emails & fax’s as well!
Also flks do not forget about putting letters to the editor in your local “fish wrap” [read as news paper]!
I have sent them a blistering email & that is the email I got back! The old link still works for a while but is no longer being monitored.
I would vehemently disagree with you. Something like this would cause HUGE political backlash and finally get the repubs out to protest not to mention all the Vets. Even Obama isn’t this crazy to try this crap.
The anger shall increase. Obi from Nairobi has stepped into the black cooking pot and has lit the fire underneath to start slow boiling himself.

Update...I went to the focus group and the turn out was so big they had to move us to a larger room. I brought up the issue about Obama wanting vets to pay for service connected injuries with private insurance and the response was interesting. The VA rep told me that the bill had not passed and I asked her if it was still being considered and she couldn’t give me a straight answer. One of the other vets in the room had just finished a town hall type meeting with Senator Vitter who said he could not rule out the possibility they dems will try to pass the proposal again. I am not quoting Sen Vitter because I wasn’t there to hear his comment. I assume he is cautioning all veterans to keep our eyes on the situation and that they might try to sneak it through in the dead of night.
