You said — “I am asking our nations students and teachers, for all of our sake, to just learn math and science. For a change.”

Ummm..., the way things are going today, to learn “math” they would just join the “pi band” instead... LOL...

It doesn’t have to be an “infinite” number...
Just use base pi and pi is 1.

It'd be more than a national holiday,
it'd be an irrational holiday!

It came to my attention recently that calling a pizza a pie seems to be a regional thing. Friends on the net seemed perplexed when I used the term round pie. At least I didn't use the ultra-Brooklynese term pizza pie.
By the way, when I did this Pi Day comic last year, I hadn't planned on it being an annual thing. But I've been asked by a couple of people what I was cooking up for this year (and why I didn't mention Square Root Day).
So give the people what they want. I can't disappoint my handful of followers.

What sort of circular logic justifies this idiocy? Do they actually believe that such a pious display of praise for math and reason fools anyone? Politicians, praising rationality, logic and formal rigor? They're politicians! There's a political angle to everything they do!
