Rep. Bill Posey, R-Florida, introduced legislation this week requiring candidates to produce a birth certificate to be eligible to run in future presidential elections, triggering a sharp reaction from Democrats who accused him of "questioning President Obama's citizenship." Posey submitted a bill with no fanfare Thursday that instructs the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 to be amended to add the birth certificate requirement. The Constitution requires that a president or a vice president be "a natural born citizen." Read: Posey's bill During the presidential campaign, some people mostly Republicans questioned whether Obama, who was born in Hawaii, was a U.S. citizen. Obama's mother was a U.S. citizen, while his father was from Kenya. Obama produced a certified copy of his birth certificate from the Hawaii Department of Health, but critics argued that it was a fake or had been altered. The Supreme Court has turned down several requests that it hear challenges to the president's citizenship. "Opponents of President Bush used the 2000 election results and the court decisions to question the legitimacy of President Bush to serve as President," Posey said in a statement. "Opponents of President Obama are raising the birth certificate issue as a means of questioning his eligibility to serve as president. Neither of these situations are healthy for our Republic. "This bill, by simply requiring such documentation for future candidates for President will remove this issue as a reason for questioning the legitimacy of a candidate elected as President." Posey spokesman George Cecala emphasized several times to CNN that the congressman was "not trying to fan the flames" of the Obama citizenship dust-up nor was he "trying to jab someone in the eye." Instead, Posey was "just trying to clarify the law,"

“Democrats why not just prove he is a citizen and put this to rest? I think thou dost protest too much!”
Your question belays your Black and White thinking. You have to consider the GRAYS. This isn’t about what the TRUTH is (You’re so Right Wing). No, this is about throwing as many trial lawyers as George Soros can afford at the problem and making it go away.
Kind of like Al Gore and the 2000 election, kind if like what the meaning of “is” is. It’s all relative depending on your legal team.
The governor hasn't sealed anything. You need to get your facts straight before shooting your mouth off.
The birthers have made up a lot of things and passing them off as "facts," when they are, in fact, false. The above is but one example.
This whole citizenship thing stinks to high heaven of fraud, and treason. I hope it comes raining down and takes everyone involved in the coverup with it, including the Governor of Hawaii.
Yes, it's a massive conspiracy, involving thousands of elected and appointed government officials, even scores of Republicans./sarcasm
Since when is "questioning President Obama's citizenship," and thereby protecting the Constitution, a crime? These 'Rats criticizing Posey and his bill are a bunch of totalitarians. But we've come to expect such viciousness from them.
Actually if you go to the Fact Check page, you'll see that the fact-checkers actually went to the certification, not the other way around. They say they were allowed to examine it, and photograph it. Of course their photos were pi$$ poor, and they do not even allege that they were allowed to say, make a copy of it, or take it with them for more detailed examination, taking of forensic quality photos, etc, etc. The only thing that could really be checked would be the seal, and even the photos they did take show a seal that just doesn't look correct.
There’s hope for the Sunshine State, after all.
Awesome!
Florida seems to have jumped on the band wagon with missour! Are there any other states with similar bills in the works?
Ping ... meet Dr. Orly Taitz, patriotic naturalized citizen.
Donning flame suit
You could be right, "always have an exit strategy" is never bad advise. I've often wondered just who is the "little man behind the curtain".
(in my best Church Lady voice) Could it be Satan? Maybe so but the short list has to include Soros 'cuz this whole mess looks like an extension of his machinations since 2000. He's been trying to buy the presidency for eight years and finally figured that if he bought both candidates, he couldn't loose.

‘...Democrats who accused him of “questioning President Obama’s citizenship.” ....
my response would be...if the shoe fits.....
in most places, voters must show ID (rightly so), so WHY shouldn’t the person who would hold the highest position in our country show proof of who he or she is???
Indeed. What amazes me is in this day and age we have plausible, and even very good reason to believe that this is truly happening in our own country. I've thought and said that we experienced and are witnessing a political coup for some time now.
These times are testing the will of good men and women for sure, the tipping point seems near, IMO
BUT NOTE - the first statement REPUBLICAN (singular) oh they love to play on words....
Good news, thanks for the ping.
