WASHINGTON The Navy has assigned a heavily armed destroyer to escort the U.S. surveillance ship that got into a high-seas confrontation with Chinese ships last weekend.
A defense official says the Pearl Harbor-based destroyer Chung-Hoon is keeping a close eye on the unarmed sub-hunting ship Impeccable as it continues operations in the South China Sea. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to describe sensitive ship movements.
The official says the escort ship joined the Impeccable on Wednesday.

We both hope and pray that does not happen...but that would be entirely dependent on the PLAN.
You like that one il be here all week
Agreed 100%.
I personally believe that large submarines can be easily detected by satellites regardless if they are under power or not.
An escalation?
Some did make negative comments...others wanted “The One” to show a little muscle in the face of provocation.
They don’t all march in lockstep over there..unless they’re reveling in BSD ( Bush Derangement Syndrome )..then its pretty much unanimous.
Maybe that is the idea, like Japan in the 30's. Provoke something, poop hits the fan. Treasuries are registered ... BOOM ... 1 trillion dollars debt repudiated against enemy nation.
Not likely, barely possible, but not impossible.
I thought I remembered correctly on this. Are we sniffing around THIS?!!?

There was another Admiral of Chinese descent who served well, Willis Augustus Lee. One of the first admirals to properly use radar with deadly effect during surface engagements, notably around Guadalcanal.
Not really. By design, they are to operate by themselves, well away from surface traffic.
“all that noise would make it extremely difficult to find subs.”
Nope, we are the best in the world at prosecuting submarines. We have been training and continuously learning that warfare area since before WWI.
Yeah, I understand what you mean. And yes, some would like to “increment” while others want to show full force.
But, I would keep in mind, if you’re showing full force, right off the bat, you’re also taking significant resources away from other things that may be just as necessary. And you might not “really” need all that force, in that a minor “increment” may be enough to “get the message across”. And thus, you will have saved yourself considerable force being moved from other areas that you need it in, too...
So, that may be part of an “on-going and overall strategy” that the military uses...
Just a thought of mine... :-)
Is that the new 5”/62cal?
It means “Come and take it.”
As opposed to millions of Americans purchasing products manufactured in Communist China, as we speak.
Strange days indeed.
Oh, the irony.
Agreed. Good response to an intentional provocation.
DU warmongers!! Racists!
So he was in Hawaii when the one was born
So he was in Hawaii when the one was born in Kenya.

Chung Hoon means “we’ve taken the measure of Zero.”
