There was another Admiral of Chinese descent who served well, Willis Augustus Lee. One of the first admirals to properly use radar with deadly effect during surface engagements, notably around Guadalcanal.

Sorry, but Willis “Ching” A. Lee was not of Chinese descent. He got his nickname at the USNA because it sounded “Chinese”. Was instrumental in killing a lot of Japs though.

My dad was of Chinese descent was a “Flying Tiger” and was instrumental in killing a lot of Japs too!

RADM Willis Lee did indeed bear the nickname “Ching Chong China” ... but he was not Chinese. He was from Kentucky, and related to that other famous Chinee (not), Robert E. Lee.
