In the US he would be hailed as a hero by the left and invited to all the best Hollywood parties.

He can rest assured that the prisons will at least be a bit more tolerable now than when saddam was running the show.

Thanks in part to the target of those shoes.

Iraqis have a very strong cultural base of hospitality and they look upon this poorly as a reflection of themselves.

So this guy gets to pay for it. He’ll probably get some clemency deal at some point. But I think he will be in the slammer for a good stretch of it.

The Iraqi government doesn’t like being made to look bad since it’s been literally a life and death struggle to get this far.

I think it would have been funny if the judge had told him, “Who throws a shoe? Honestly! You fight like a woman.”

Very true.
It’s a shame actually that the MSM doesn’t appreciate how far they’ve come. Of course they never acknowledged how bad it was under Saddam.

They have no interests in reporting on how the Iraqis have overcome the tide.
And they certainly don’t want to report facts on the ground that would undercut their “investment” in reporting the failure of Iraq.

That would belie the attacks on President Bush. It’s never in their book.
Most of us saw the tide coming by reading Michael Yon and other reports as the media decided that it’s best to just go silent.

On occasion of course they will trot out someone to say how it will all fail, but they have no interest in reporting or seeing otherwise. The Iraqi people are no more than a prop in the matter.

They had more interests in cutting a deal with Saddam so they could hang out at Iraq hotels than report on the brutality against the people. American reporters in Bagdad were just an extension of the Ugly American.

They are too self-absorbed to see what everyone else does.
