Call for White House lawn vegie patch
Herald Sun ^ | 12 March 2009

NEARLY 85,000 people have signed an online petition calling for part of the White House lawn to be turned into a vegetable patch, the plan's germinator said today.

"The idea is for the Obama family to plant an organic vegetable garden on part of the White House lawn, with the cultivated vegies going to the White House kitchen and any overflow going to feed those in need," Roger Doiron, said, adding the idea had sprouted last year.

If the Obamas were to plant a garden on the White House grounds, it would have the "inspirational potential" to spawn millions of similar gardens, not only in the United States but around the world, Mr Doiron said.

Backing for the idea has come from as far away as Kenya, where farmers asked if they could sign the petition and make a financial contribution to the cause.

The town of Kingston in New York state has been inspired by Mr Doiron's plan to put in a vegetable garden in front of their town hall.

In Flint, Michigan, city officials have approved "a three-acre garden smack-dab in the middle of the municipal complex," said Mr Doiron.

It wouldn’t be potatoes or corn due to the increased work for the SS...too many eyes and ears.

Inspiring millions of Americans to plant gardens is fine, but in light of the HR 875, which is designed to control just such private consumption, is this a devious scheme by the Obamas?

I refuse to believe that (/sarcasm)

I hope Gordon Brown likes black eyed peas, Greens, and corn bread. None of that $100.00 beef for foreigners.

How frickin stupid can the American voter get? Can it get any worse? Yes indeed, why don't we just require everyone in America to plow up their lawns and grow veggies, then we can just send all the surplus veggies to those poor people who don't want to work for a living.

Don't these people know that if they would just get the frickin government out of the agriculture business, and every other business, that we would produce more food than the world could eat?

I have what the liberals have done to America. They are like a deadly fungus or a cancer spreading rapidly through our great country.
