Our health-care system may well be ripe for a major overhaul, as are our energy and environmental policies. Widespread recognition that all of these reforms are overdue contributed to Barack Obama's victory in November.
But if the chaos that resulted from initiating such an overhaul were piled on top of the unresolved status of the financial system, society and government would become exhausted. Instead, the administration must adopt a discipline; not initiating a second wave of chaos before we have a chance to rein in the first.
The point is, all administrations, including this one, have a finite capacity to deal with the details of monumental problems -- and the financial system's troubles certainly are monumental. Equally important is that society has a finite capacity to understand what created the problem, what the likely solutions are going to be and, most important, what can be expected from the new order of things and when.
Leading an organization, let alone a society, out of the chaos phase and into a new order requires explicitly clear and consistent messages from the top. The leader must paint a picture of the new and fill in lots of detail so that all relevant parts of society understand what they need to do to contribute. The answers to the questions "What is wrong?" "What are we going to do?" "How are we going to do it?" and "What should we expect?" should be drummed home relentlessly. This needs to be an ongoing process, where clarity, consistency and repetition are key.
First things first. Strive to achieve stability in our financial system. When the momentum is clear enough to allow trust in the system to return, then tackle the next mega-problem. As Machiavelli said, "One change always leaves the way open for the establishment of others."

Obama wants chaos because he can get more power.
If the Washington Pest is worried, so should the Obama Administration be worried. But my prayers are that they would be Liberal Democrats to the utmost and be unable to temper their course.
“overhaul” is code for “more gov’t programs”
Andy Grove obviously never heard about not wasting a good crisis. He may have written something else here, had he done so.
The enemy within.
The end result will be disaster.........people will start pushing back and pushing back hard.
That Coward obama, signs everything with a flourish, until today.....not even a photograph as he signs this 410 billion dollar mess.
Rein in the chaos? CHAOS IS THE OBJECTIVE, Mr. GROVE!!!.................
Exactly. And this is the last thing they want to do:
“Leading an organization, let alone a society, out of the chaos phase and into a new order requires explicitly clear and consistent messages from the top. The leader must paint a picture of the new and fill in lots of detail so that all relevant parts of society understand what they need to do to contribute. The answers to the questions “What is wrong?” “What are we going to do?” “How are we going to do it?” and “What should we expect?” should be drummed home relentlessly. This needs to be an ongoing process, where clarity, consistency and repetition are key.”
The key is to implement the system BEFORE the details are known, just as in the stimulus bill, the bailouts and the new budget. This new “great communicator” prefers to explain fait accompli, not plans in the future.
Exactly!
Just look at how long it took for the ‘progressives’ to create this disaster by using massive government intervention to create this private credit deflation fiasco!
Fix It? Are you kidding?
Even if Obambi does get it going, it will take a year to convince everyone he does. He may have wrecked his Presidency faster than any other.
schu
Nobody in MSM or Fox is saying this. It should be obvious unless I am wrong and Obama is a Special kind of stupid and does not realize what a power grab his policies are.
The Zero told everyone exactly what his plans were from the beginning. Nobody, except the Right, was listening blinded by the aura of “hope and change”...................
And we can remember how those who warned about Obama were branded alarmists or racists.
Repost:
Even ‘progressives’ understand the human nature of ‘greed’.
“Owners of capital will stimulate the working class to buy more and more of expensive goods, houses and technology, pushing them to take more and more expensive credits, until their debt becomes unbearable. The unpaid debt will lead to bankruptcy of banks, which will have to be nationalized, and the State will have to take the road which will eventually lead to communism.
Karl Marx, Das Kapital, 1867
The natural antidote to greed is family and faith. Both of those institutions have been under attack for decades to the point where families are decimated and faiths are co-opted or villainized. Without those antidotes to keep them in mind of future generations and their brothers and sisters under God, people think of little beside their own animal lusts. At most their loyalty goes to the particular tribe with which they identify. Communists knew this, of course, and so they were particularly vehement about attacking family and faith and pressuring people to adopt the government as their tribe. In our own society the attacks have been more subtle but no less effective.
Grove shows his neo-Marxist leanings here. In summary, he's telling Opossum that he's doing the right things, only too quickly.
Right on!
As Tom Wolfe has stated, we lost our country (or society) in the 1970’s. When the 10 commandments were allowed to be removed from the public square, man’s conscience became untethered from God’s Law and subjected to man’s laws or whims.
The current situation isn’t actually all government or market failure but mainly, IMHO a societal failure of morality.
