Houston Mayor Bill White today called upon the federal government to develop a better system to identify, track and deport illegal immigrants who commit serious crimes after a Houston police officer was shot last week by an illegal immigrant.
The federal government’s two main databases available to law enforcement agencies to screen criminals is ``inconsistent and incomplete” and more resources need to be devoted to improve it, White said.
Wilfido Joel Alfaro, who police say shot Officer Richard Salter during a drug raid, is an El Salvadoran citizen with a history of drug arrests, authorities said. Alfaro had been arrested five times for possession or delivery of drugs – including three times after an immigration judge granted him “voluntary departure” in March 2001.
Salter remains in critical condition at Ben Taub General Hospital. However, officials said he moved two of his fingers today when doctors asked him to, the first time doctors have asked him to respond to a request.
“As a local law enforcement agency, under law, we can’t deport people,” White said today. “That is the job of the federal government, and we’re calling on the federal government to do their job.”

I think Houston is a sanctuary city. We are being overun by illegals. Maybe Mayor White could revisit that issue.
Our federal government has the mandate to protect the people and enforce the boarders, or is it to pay for research on global warming and the extermination of Mormon crickets?

Yes, I recall that the City Hall has consistently avoided doing anything about stopping the illegal day-labor pools which congregate on EVERY major intersection in Southwest Houston.
And for years, the HPD couldn’t ask a person if they were legal or illegal. It was off-limits.

Bill White is a hypocritical SOB of the first order, having done his best to prevent deportation of illegals - in the hope, no doubt, the MFs would vote for him.
Politicians (no matter what rank, mayors up) who sanction them should be forced to share jail cells with them - no exceptions. Crowded cells, the more, the merrier, because that's the depth of political involvement in the illegal alien problem this nation is dealing with.

White has endorsed for year keeping Houston a “Sanctuary City” so that illegals can freely roam the streets of Houston, supposely for getting jobs but also distributing dope.
Appears some will also commit murder.
The family of the slain should sue the s__t out of White as he failed in his duty to keep Houston safe.
His bid to run for the Texas Governorship has taken a servious Uturn.
