Religion might not be the only reason people buy into creationism and intelligent design, psychological experiments suggest.
No matter what their religious beliefs, college-educated adults frequently agree with purpose-seeking yet false explanations of natural phenomena - finches diversified in order to survive, for instance.
"The very fact of belief in purpose itself might lead you to favour intelligent design," says Deborah Kelemen, a psychologist at Boston University, who led the study
Kelemen has documented the same kind of erroneous thinking - called promiscuous teleology - in young children. Seven and eight-year olds agree with teleological statements such as "Rocks are jagged so animals can scratch themselves" and "Birds exist to make nice music". These mistakes diminish as kids take more science classes and learn causal explanations for natural events.

Matthew 13:19 (King James Version)
When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.
So atheists aren’t really evolved smarter than religious people, they are still lagging behind closer to the dumb apes?
(Sorry, couldn’t help myself)
If you want to know about “erroneous thinking, check out the New Scientist’s constant stuff on climate change. These folks should be on the Obamaloon cabinet. Evidently, science is not their forte either.
... quia fecisti nos ad te, et inquietum est cor nostrum, donec requiescat in te.
I think there are a number of things that humans are primed to believe.
Nah, God created them that way.
“These mistakes diminish as kids take more science classes and learn casual explanations for natural events.”
Translation: They get their minds right, once they’ve been
properly indoctrinated.
This is how they do science nowadays. They haven’t identified a mechanism for this belief. They’ve merely identified an apparent phenomenon, but don’t really know anything about it. And so — of course! — they’ve put it into the category labeled “Evidence for Evolution”.
“Rocks are jagged so animals can scratch themselves?” It has been over 50 years, but I would be willing to bet that I was smarter than that at 7! Perhaps the study should have further defined these as 7 yr. old idiots, or perhaps, 7 yr. old children of whacko leftists. You know...the parents who look out on 3 feet of snow and blame global warming!
Scientists will use the terms ‘design’ and ‘purpose’. There is no denying that bird wings, for example, serve a purpose. The purpose is flight. It is claimed that ‘evolution’ developed these apparati to fulfill that purpose. These people of science should ponder the definition of the word ‘purpose’. Purpose requires ‘intent’. Perhaps science can explain the intentions of a mindless universe.
The belief and practice of Judeo-Christianity requires logic. I recall a scripture that says when you see a house, you know there is a builder. The house did materialize from nothingness and assemble itself. In the same way, when I contemplate the ordered structure of nature, all the way from subatomic particles to galaxies in the universe, I know there is a builder.
Ever learning but never coming to the knowledge of the truth. However I must not let myself forget the rest of this story.
If I have been given the correct background information, it was the Wright Brothers preacher Father who is quoted as saying...
“If man were meant to fly, God would have given him wings.”
So there are many sides to the same God.
I also love the fact the Genesis tells the same basic story as evolution.
Heavens, Earth, water, land, trees, fish, birds, animals, man. The only significant difference is that the Bible story of creation puts the Sun, moon and stars on day 4. Long after the time when God separated the light from the darkness. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
On a side note.
We also start in darkness in the womb and come into the light on day one.
These eternal truths are simply espoused.
How they are perceived therein, thence acted upon -- is entirely dependent on the reader/hearer's disposition;
Open-mindedness??
A heart-level awareness of need to receive the eternal message??...
And a desire to discover and establish a relationship with the divine Author??

We are holding so much more than the words on pages...
We are holding God's plans for all of life:
The Love Letter...
The Owner's Manual...
THe Road Map...
The Star Chart...
The Song Book...
The Banquet Menu...
He has offered His very best from the beginning...
Holding nothing back for the redemption of His Loved Ones...
Sparing not His Only Begotten Son...
It's quite simple... quite clear...
And in these days -- perhaps a little urgent.
Please do more than read it...
Believe it...
Receive it...
Live it...
Give it...
Have a blessed Day...
So give these scientific types a little time, a little water, a little sunlight.
Even Paul persecuted and hated Christians before he became the chief apostle to the gentiles.
The Bible, God's book, also says that "I fool has said in his heart, there is no God".
Let the Darwinists and evolutionists celebrate their own holiday; April 1st.
'These mistakes diminish as kids take more science classes and learn casual causal explanations for natural events.'
The really humorous part, though, is that the way you wrote it is more correct. Evos have no actual causal relationships to point to as evidence, only correlated relationships.
I meant to do that.
Ahem.
