Obama to Sign Executive Order Monday Opening Public Funding of Embryonic Stem Cell Research http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2009/mar/09030611.html

WASHINGTON, March 6, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - President Barack Obama plans to rescind the Bush policy limiting federal funding for embryo destructive research on Monday. The Bush policy had allowed federal funding for experiments on already existing lines of embryos, but forbade the funds from being used to create new embryos for experimentation.
According to news reports, a signing ceremony will take place on Monday at 11 am. Details about the Executive Order are not available, but according to the Washington Post, "proponents expect Obama will simply lift the restriction without caveats and let the NIH work out the details."
Tony Perkins, President of Family Research Council commented on the news, saying, "Today's news that President Obama will open the door to direct taxpayer funds for embryonic stem cell research that encourages the destruction of human embryos is a slap in the face to Americans who believe in the dignity of all human life."
Perkins added: "I believe it is unethical to use human life, even young embryonic life, to advance science. While such research is unfortunately legal, taxpayers should not have to foot the bill for experiments that require the destruction of human life."
The Family Research Council leader pointed out that "Obama's policy change is especially troubling given the significant adult stem cell advances that are being used to treat patients now without harming or destroying human embryos."
He concluded, "Despite the significant advances using adult stem cells to treat patients, and new techniques to create stem cells from any patient, President Obama will choose to direct taxpayer's money to experiments that represent the poorest stem cell science.
Just this week ten pro-life Members of Congress spoke on stem cell research during a Special Order organized by Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ). Smith and the other pro-life Congressman observed that embryonic stem-cell research is not only unethical, but unnecessary, given the superior results achieved through adult stem cell research.
"Human embryo-destroying stem cell research is not only unethical, unworkable and unreliable, it is now demonstrably unnecessary," said Smith. "Adult stem cells ... are truly remarkable. They work, they have no ethical baggage, and advances are made every day at a dizzying pace.
But despite so much progress in the adult stem cell field, "the Obama administration and the House and Senate Democratic leadership remain obsessed with killing human embryos for experimentation at taxpayer expense," said Smith.

God forgave us at birth..
God help us.
Apparently you do not remember. George Bush only gave them the existing stem cells already created - but denied any future stem cells.
His restriction is what all the Hollywood crowd were moaning about. How poor pitiful Michael Fox just could not be cured because of Bush.
And, the fact that you feel compelled to insult George Bush on a post about Obama’s presidency is very telling. Trying to divert the anger - huh??????????
Too late - George Bush is gone and WE KNOW WHAT HE DID AS PRESIDENT so try your nonsense on the DU crowd. They believe anything against George Bush.
Operation “Stem Cell Research” is nothing but mind control (i.e. based in the BIG LIE Technique).
TOne of two main goals is the same the as one of two main goals of the “Holocaust Denial” agenda: PAVE THE WAY for general acceptance of genocide.
“Ironically” this genocide is not about unborn babies.
That one has already been accepted long ago.
Sarcasm. It was sarcasm directed at all those crying out ‘Bushbot’ everytime someone pointed out that there was, in fact, a big difference between GWB and a Dem President.
I notice none of them have come back to apologize.
This is not “science” — it has everything to do with greed and profit. It is unnecessary to kill Embryos for this. Adult stem cells can do the same thing - derived from marrow, cord fat cells - every tissue in the body has stem cells. Even one’s own skin cells can be utilized.
I am for scientific advancement, but not for the government to play with human life. This is “social-enginnering” — to create clones and Obamabots and “happy people” that will follow their leader forever. It is a detriment to the human race.
Next up on Obama’s agenda: Late-term abortions will be the ‘law of the land’...
Sanctity of human life is paramount for a civilization to exist.
Well said and isn’t it amazing that liberals say they don’t want “their” children exposed to God in any public venue or science class but not a peep about Christian tax-oayers funding this nonsense.
We pay for their failed public schools while we home-school or private school our kids. And we pay fot this godless nonsense.
It’s time we put a stop to ALL of it.
I’m sorry to hear about your husband. My next door neighbor has been fighting it for years. I don’t know if I could be strong enough to refuse treatment, but I admire you both for your choice. I’ll say a prayer for you both. I think that many who support embryonic stem cell research have been talked into believing that it is a miracle cure. It isn’t.
California (now in dire financial straits) committed three billion dollars to ESCR.
The disgraced former Governor of New Jersey, James McGreevey, established the state-funded Stem Cell Institute of New Jersey with tens of millions of dollars in taxpayer funds. Even in 2008, Massachusetts authorized one billion taxpayer dollars to fund ESCR.
They have produced nothing, not one damn thing, of therapeutic value, and yet those are funds that truly promising Adult Stem Cell rsearchers are NOT going to get.
But the point is, anyone--- individual, University, States, investment consortium, privately-financed research lab, whoever --- was free to pursue ESCR as long as federal funds were not involved.
The MSM says Bush "banned" it merely because he declined to fund it, limiting FEDERAL funding to already-existing embryo-sourced cell lines (still morally obejectionable, but it didn't involve victimizing newly begotten humans.)
God bless you, God bless you, God bless you and your husband abundantly for your faithfulness. Thank you for speaking out when you have the opportunity. We need to hear this: all of us: often.
Thanks for pointing that out. So Obama is now removing the ban on federal funding, using the same method that Bush used to begin it: executive order.
Your point is that there was never a total ban on embryonic stem cell research, provided it was paid for with non-federal sources But this fact illustrates my other point: If you want to outlaw the research altogether, you would have to get Federal legislation passed, or a Constitutional amendment regarding human life beginning at conception.
The femonazi left needs taxpayers moneys to keep the abortion mills killing American children and some wonder why America is dying? Bad moral choices like tax funded abortion is a moral choice that GOD Almighty will not abide and we see America being destroyed by the ungodly secular left. Professing themselves to be wise, they are deluded fools.
Their science is junk science, their morals are reprehensible, their economics are financially destructive, and they themselves are mad.
Please use the /sarc tag. We don’t all read every post on a thread, so may not catch an unmarked sarcasm statement.
I react automatically to any attack on Bush after 8 years and many FR’s playing the “teach the GOP a lesson” ploy that got us Obama and possibly financial ruin and the destruction of every conservative ideal we ever put in government.
I’m a wee bit sensitive to Bush attacks.
Funny thing - now that they have Obama - they still feel they are big men if they include an attack on Bush (the most battered president in our history).
Not to worry, I didn’t take it personal, and if it hadn’t been sarcasm on on my part, you would have been dead on!
