Barack Obama 'too tired' to give proper welcome to Gordon Brown
The London Telegraph ^ | March 7, 2009 | Tim Shipman

Posted on 03/07/2009 12:16:38 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Barack Obama's offhand approach to Gordon Brown's Washington visit last week came about because the president has facing exhaustion over America's economic crisis and is unable to focus on foreign affairs, the Sunday Telegraph has been told.

Sources close to the White House say Mr Obama and his staff have been "overwhelmed" by the economic meltdown and have voiced concerns that the new president is not getting enough rest.

British officials, meanwhile, admit that the White House and US State Department staff were utterly bemused by complaints that the Prime Minister should have been granted full-blown press conference and a formal dinner, as has been customary. They concede that Obama aides seemed unfamiliar with the expectations that surround a major visit by a British prime minister.

But Washington figures with access to Mr Obama's inner circle explained the slight by saying that those high up in the administration have had little time to deal with international matters, let alone the diplomatic niceties of the special relationship.

Allies of Mr Obama say his weary appearance in the Oval Office with Mr Brown illustrates the strain he is now under, and the president's surprise at the sheer volume of business that crosses his desk.

A well-connected Washington figure, who is close to members of Mr Obama's inner circle, expressed concern that Mr Obama had failed so far to "even fake an interest in foreign policy".

A British official conceded that the furore surrounding the apparent snub to Mr Brown had come as a shock to the White House. "I think it's right to say that their focus is elsewhere, on domestic affairs. A number of our US interlocutors said they couldn't quite understand the British concerns and didn't get what that was all about."

Those visits to the gym are doing nothing to improve his stamina.

He doesn't have any visible muscles in his scrawny little arms and legs either. Maybe he just shoots a few baskets or something.

Once an addict always an addict?

I worked with a guy who would be on top of the world in the morning and an absolute jerk after lunch, then he would crash before the day ended.

I’ve never been around drugs so I’m pretty innocent about what to look for.

I’ve said before, these people are going to screw up and break a big one.

The official dismissed any notion of the special relationship, saying: "There's nothing special about Britain. You're just the same as the other 190 countries in the world."

Shouldn't the state department know there are 193 sovereign countries?

He’s just incapable of handling the stress that comes with the job. Weak character, weak mind, weak body. I wouldn’t be surprised if he loads up on anti-stress pharmaceuticals before long. ...if he isn’t already. A mental breakdown rendering him incapacitated is a definite possibility here.

Lol, haven't read the thread but we all know Zero has had a number of ‘vacations’ already in his less than two months in office and every Wednesday night is PARTY HEARTY time at the White House!!

Obama kicks up White House entertaining ...... The White House is the place to be on Wednesdays. Since the presidency changed hands less than six weeks ago, a burst of entertaining has taken hold of the iconic, white-columned home of America's head of state. Much of it comes on Wednesdays. .....

Remember, people in his circle said that he should forget about the inauguration and start being president as early as November or December. They were so ready and eager to perform their duties and that it was just silly for W to continuing acting as the lame duck. They thought he should just get out of their way immediately so they could get down to the task of running the government.
The level of immaturity that seems to be rampant within the White House circle is “overwhelming”.

” said months ago that people who did not even like President Bush would be among the first to say they missed him. I knew this guy was a sissy who did not have a clue as to what a real President did every day. It is not all fun and games. Can you imagine this guy being President when 9/11 happened? We would have had many more acts of terror on our land. How can anyone not see that he is way over his head and has gone down for the 3rd time?”

OMG. I couldn’t agree with you more. I was thinking the same. What if heaven forbid, we were attacked again and had this POTUS at the helm??!!!

DEMs always seem to be micromanagers. I guess it’s that whole top-down, central planning ideology. Delegaters can get into trouble too, if they don’t have good systems in place to keep people accountable. Even old RR admitted he made that mistake. But micromanagers seem to always be bad managers.

And PM Brown is practically blind, as well. He has no vision in one eye (from a rugby accident, IIRC) and the other is deteriorating. Would you give a blind man a gift of movies (that won't play on his DVD player, btw)??

Incredible. I hadn't even thought of that. Talk about a slap in the face! Like Biden telling that poor guy on the wheel chair to stand up!

Yes business such as a full out attack on Rush Limbaugh.

Exactly. The man seems to spend an awful lot of time having parties and then he says he is too tired for the real business of the white house? We all know how long his job would last in the real world if this was the case.
