In the first two months of 2009, the Democratic Congress and the White House have spent more money than was spent on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and the response to Hurricane Katrina combined. After they doled out taxpayer dollars at such a blistering pace, the instinct of many inside the Beltway is to do what's most convenient: desperately try to change the subject by creating straw men -- called "the party of no" -- to rally against.
And in a carefully calculated campaign, operatives and allies of the Obama administration are seeking to divert attention toward radio host Rush Limbaugh, and away from a debate about our alternative solutions on the economy and the irresponsible spending binge they are presiding over. This diversionary tactic will not create a single job or help a single family struggling in today's economic crisis. And that is where our focus should be.
Make no mistake: This strategy did not develop out of thin air. Democratic pollsters began laying the groundwork last fall. What's particularly regrettable is that all this is unfolding at a time our nation can least afford it.
President Obama has said that we must change the way Washington operates in order to address the unprecedented challenges of today. I hope that those inside and close to the administration begin heeding his advice, because the change-the-subject campaign they are employing is the oldest trick in Washington's book. This isn't about the leadership of political party officials or the influence of radio hosts. It's about the need for both parties to work together toward real solutions to end this recession and put Americans back to work.
It's no secret that middle-class families and small businesses across our nation are hurting. Their job security is diminishing, their budgets are tightening, and their 401(k)s

The downturn began about 11 months after the Democrats regained control of Congress. But the GOP has no one who will do battle with them over that issue.
It is funny that they would use the moniker of “the party of no.” My first thought was that if a woman says NO, and you proceed anyway, then it is RAPE. Therefore, the democraps are the party of RAPE!
The sad part is the recovery is not the typical U shape but a L shape one.
“because the change-the-subject campaign they are employing is the oldest trick in Washington’s book.”
That is the key Word: CAMPAIGN!
He thinks he is still on the campaign trail. He can’t operate any other way!
The “House” has more influence than any other part of government regards spending: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_House_elections,_2006
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Senate_elections,_2006
So, now the Democrats with their President, their House and Senate since 2006, a majority that can ram whatever they want down the throat of any opposition since 2008, are blaming the spending, economy, and financial melt down on the Republicans. I'm sure Barney Franks also blames the mortgage crisis on the Republicans too!

While I do not agree with what happened regards spending under Bush, what many Conservatives don't understand (IMHO) is that he actually wasn't the “big spender” he was made out as. He simply had a war, stalling economy in 2001 after 911, and faced a Congress that he HAD to make compromises with.
I think the key point of the article is the “straw man”, the diversionary tactic to focus discussion anywhere but upon what the Democrats are doing to us.
We must be aware of this old trick of theirs and remain focused.
Let’s plug in some numbers and see what patterns develop.
November 1992: Clinton elected President - Dow = 3240
November 1994: Republicans retake control of the House and Senate - Dow = 3807
June 2001: Jumpin’ Jim Jeffords gives control of the Senate to the Democrats - Dow = 10,990
November 2002: Republicans retake Senate - Dow = 8537
November 2006: Democrats retake control of House & Senate - Dow = 12,342
November 2008: Obama elected President - Dow = 8943
Today, four months since Obama was elected President - Dow = 6626.
Let’s review. During the first two years of Clinton, while the Democrats retained control of the House and Senate, the Dow increased but was relatively flat.
In 1994, the Republicans took control of the House and Senate. The Dow exploded, increasing at an annual rate of almost 18% per year for the next 6 & 1/2 years, the entire period while the Republicans remained in control.
In June 2001, the Democrats gained control of the Senate. The Dow then plunged at an annual rate of almost -16% until November 2002, when the Republicans regained control of the Senate.
From November 2002, until November 2006, the Dow increased at a rate of over 20% per year, until the Democrats regained control of both the House and the Senate.
In November 2006, the Democrats regained control of both the House and Senate. During the first two years of Democrat control (from November 2006 to November 2008), the Dow plunged at an annual rate of almost -15% per year. Since the Democrats gained control of the House and Senate in November 2006, the Dow has dropped over 46% or a total of over 5700 points.
Since Obama was elected President, the Democrat controlled plunge in the Dow has accelerated, and the Dow is now down over 25% in the four months since election day.
Anyone else notice a pattern here?
Republican Control = Bull Market and Prosperity
Democrat Control = Bear Market and Depression
It is not hard to do the math.
The RATS just keep buying votes with our tax dollars- it’s what they do.
I actually worry about Rush - the Obamabots are a group for whom nothing is beneath them. While the press carried on about the (complete lie) so-called “kill him” phrase that McCain backers never uttered, they sit back quietly while Obama and his Dem minions carry out a smear campaign right out in the open against Rush, Hannity etc. Of course, after what happened with Joe the Plumber I should remind myself that the press is in on this with Obama and the Dems. Free speech should exist ONLY if you are a hateful liberal - otherwise, they would like us to shut-up!
If you believe that big investors and large business, will look unfavorable at more laws, regulations, and taxes; monetary and fiscal policy that will create inflation long term.
Why then does one believe that an economy will do better under those like Obama? I don't know if you knew this, but did you know he's black?
It is unimaginable, and for years we already have had a society that gives special privileges and protections to certain classes, but today we have come to a point where it is taboo to question him in the elections because it's either racists, xenophobic or mean spirited. Dissent and even free speech is squelched! Now elected and with the economy falling out from underneath him every time he opens his mouth, with him singing his sweet serenades of socialism and class warfare, the media seems to ignore the world imploding and talks of “Historic events” and “shivers running up their leg.”
Question. While the Democrats point the finger at Bush, who in the “watchdog media” is mentioning the minor detail that the Democrats have held a majority in Congress (House and Senate) for two years now?
John, as I recall it, you voted in FAVOR of the first phony stimulus bill—you remember—the one over which McCain had to call off his “campaign”, lest the US fade away because winning a campaign might be viewed as more important than a purely empty political gesture! So please, don’t lecture us. We know der Fuhrer is a thug. But you’re not the classiest guy in Washington either.
DUH!!!
When has a Democrap or a Liberal ever taken personal responsibility??
They have put the blame on the GOP (and GWB), and the American sheeple endorsed that view on Nov. 4, 2008. Case closed
In the late great USA, freedom of speech means the right to say what authorities “in power” want to hear. In other words, for the American sheeple, it no longer exists.
