The Delphi Technique, what it is and how to counter it
TCOT Action Projects ^ | March 6th, 2009 | Jenny Hatch

I just wanted to make everyone aware of the Delphi Technique. It is a Consensus and Facilitation technique that keeps those who are unaware of how it works from being effective political activists. For those who are just beginning as politically active conservatives, mastering the countering techniques will help us be much more effective as we move against the Marxists who have overtaken our government.

Excellent work Jenny!
I have learned much today!

I learned of NLP back in the 70s and always had a bad feeling when we discussed it.

This Delphi stuff was adopted by a company I used to work for moons ago... Needless to say, I made the ‘facilitator’ the victim often enough to get fired!

Please add me to any lists for future posts!
Thanks again.

“Please add me to any lists for future posts!”

I’m ashamed to admit this after being on Free Republic for five years, but I have no idea how to set up a ping list, even though I belong to several myself. Anyone know how to do it?

Jen

This is very informative. It appears the Delphi Technique is just what democrat leaders have done to politics (and in particular to their republican counterparts).

“Immoral? Look - My point is, we can’t wait and rely on acting defensively all the time.”

Yes, the Delphi technique immoral because the facilitators are lying to the group.

The best way to combat it is awareness. How many participants in a given group would remain compliant if they knew they were being manipulated?

Immoral means always lose in the end.

FWIW, one of the "management suggestions" is to select two choices. The one you don't want and the one you do. For the one you don't want, you get the worst possible solution, so everyone will reject it. City of Austin used this technique to get their new airport built. After having a new airport voted down several times by the citizens, the city put two options on the table. The first was to expand Robert Mueller Airport. The other was to take the closed Bergstrom base and turn it into a new airport.

They didn't want to expand Mueller. The plan called for the city to purchase a huge swathe of land from 45th street down to 7th street, and level hundreds of houses. Of course, citizens could vote against both plans, but the commercials misled, making it sound like you were voting for one plan or the other.

This is a very common and effective technique. Jump past the initial question and offer a choice of two outcomes.

Interesting example. Shows the arrogance of government and the malignant nature of the Hegel-Alinsky-Obama method.

If we know that it’s being used for gaining people to their side - a side that we all know is bad because it’s going to be used against the framework of the country - why not turn the tables for the good?

I think the problem you will quickly come to is the blatant lying while being a charmer part of the Delphi technique. There is nothing wrong with polling audiences and presenting a convincing argument, or even with splitting people into groups and making sure that someone is in each group that represents a conservative perspective. But when it comes to vilifying people with reasonable questions, squashing debate, and lying about poll results, then you have a moral problem.

Realistically, the conservative viewpoint just needs to be heard and expressed in more levels and formats. I would like to see more sites like FreeRepublic, but with less of a focus on politics so that people who would normally just visit lifestyle sites would see communities of conservatives without the vilification that happens so frequently on the web.

"It really isn’t as sinister as the articles make it sound, it is a common negotiation technique."

I disagree. It is straight out Alinski's "Rules for Radicals", and whenever it is used, it is ALWAYS used to bring the group to the predetermined outcome. It is NEVER used by honest people to honestly assess the desires of those in attendance.

Why hold such meetings at all if the outcomes are already established? The answer is because it is imperative for the acceptance of the School-to-Work agenda, or the environmental agenda, or whatever the agenda, that ordinary people assume ownership of the preset outcomes. If people believe an idea is theirs, they'll support it. If they believe an idea is being forced on them, they'll resist.

Important stuff. Resistance is not futile.

The very first warning signal to watch out for.... if two or more friends go in to the meeting together, you will not be allowed to sit together. Each will be assigned to a separate table, and usually seated where they cannot even see each other.

Several years ago, the National Park Service brought in teams of trained "facilitators" from Denver to run local meetings to discuss "what changes the locals wanted for our local park." Of course we all wanted no roads or trails closed, cars allowed on the roads in the park as usual, etc.,

Guess what ended up as the public concensus: The "public" (steered by the professional facilitators) wanted ALL the roads and most trails closed, and no cars allowed in to the park. We supposedly wanted to have to park miles outside the Park, and pay to be bussed in. Yeh, sure we did.

Also, take heed. Government departments and agencies use the Delphi Technique all the time, and have armies of well-trained facilitators whose sole job is to "sell" their pre-written goals to the unsuspecting public.

Many times it isn’t necessarily calculated, some controlling, narcissistic personality types do this without knowing it is a defined technique, it is just part of their nature.

Indeed. And because their natural behavior leads to the control and oppression of the victims, it is not viable or sustaining in the long-term. Force must be used, with increased aggression. Thus the continuous need to sell and to "recruit", as with other toxic ideologies, vanities, -isms, and -alities.

"Facilitator" is an appropriate word choice. After all, to the uninitiated, a facilitator is one who makes things easier, is an unbiased mediator, or is a harmless point of reference. To those managing a predetermined outcome, the facilitator is the one who makes the goal [of manipulation and control] easier.

Do normal civilized people really need to be taught to tolerate that which by its very nature (e.g. good manners, productivity, kindness, generosity) is tolerable by default? Those things that are by nature filthy, depraved, sinister, dishonest and destructive - those are the things that we are expected to tolerate, by force if necessary. Honest, decent people must be reprogrammed to tolerate the intolerable, because otherwise they would reject it wholesale, as an eye blinks and waters or a nose sneezes in order to expel the foreign object.

People are so used to [being delphied into] tolerating all manner of evil, that they surely must doubt or deny their own ability to think and reason. How else does a deer-in-the-headlights Bambi become president? *Somebody* thought it was a good idea, be it a behind-the-scenes goon generating fraudulent votes, or a braindead hopenchangeiac.

Hope and change is the vain, amorphous goal of satan himself.

Revelation 13:2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.

I completely agree with you. I have been watching how Mr. Obama uses the Technique just about every time he opens his mouth. It is all he knows, and it just sickens me to watch how our people are being manipulated into full blown Marxisms. He used it with the whole health care summit the other day.

President Barack Obama opened a White House health care summit Thursday, calling for his allies and opponents to come together to overhaul the U.S. health care system.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7W6cQkPwaI

Predetermined goal: Socialized Medicine

Supposedly looking for bipartisan support - yet uses the Delphi Technique to manipulate those listening to the predetermined assumptions and outcome.

This lady had some terrible assumptions about the health care debate:

http://patients.about.com/b/2009/03/07/obamas-healthcare-summit-the-devil-is-in-compromises-and-details.htm

"I believe that in order to fix the system and contain the costs, everyone, both healthy people and sick people, must pay into the system, however the system is designed."

http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7014325440

"House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH), who did not attend the summit, "welcome[d] the dialogue" but repeated his criticism of Obama's 2010 budget,s saying, "Taxpayers cannot afford to subsidize a bureaucratic takeover of health care with a massive tax hike on all Americans, particularly in these troubled economic times."

And from that same article: (This to me was the kicker quote regarding the Delphi Technique)

"During the summit,Obama called healthcare reform a moral imperative and a fiscal imperative.

"If we want to create jobs and rebuild our economy and get our federal budget under control, then we have to address the crushing cost of health care this year, in this administration," the President said.

"Everyone has a right to take part in this discussion, nobody has the right to take it over and dominate. The status quo is the one option that's not on the table, and those who seek to block any reform at all -- any reform at any costs will not prevail this time around," he added.

Obama had signed into law a bill expanding the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) in January as one of his first pieces of legislation. The measure expands coverage from 6.7 million children to 4 million more children at the cost about $33 billion over the next 4 1/2 years. Republicans had opposed the bill over concerns about loopholes, including adults and illegal immigrants benefiting from the program.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7W6cQkPwaI

What no one ever talks about is that the portions of American Health Care that are socialized (and some estimate that over fifty percent of our Health System is already funded by taxpayers) that portion of health care is the problematic side - befuddled by fraud, waste, and non-market based prices for drugs, surgery, and hospital care.

We have huge swaths of American Health care that receive no federal funding at all and the prices have stayed at reasonable levels for those consumers who wish to purchase what these providers have to sell. I am specifically talking about alternative healing as defined by chiropractic care, midwifery, massage therapy, homeopathic care, naturopathic care, herbs, and chinese medicine.

These healers, who are mostly out of the realm of the insurance and socialistic side of things have kept prices reasonable and based on market forces, while fellow healers in the allopathic world have increased costs beyond all prudent home budgets BECAUSE of non market forces picking the prices for care.

The answer for all health care issues is to get all government money out of health care, let the market regulate itself freely and let the consumer decide what will stay and what will go.

This is the only answer for our society. Anything less and we will all be medical slaves for the next fifty years until the whole thing implodes.

So true! I never read about it laid out so clearly, but can tell you I experienced it myself. During my first 18 years of teaching (63-81)I was a member of the NEA. Learned after time it wasn’t for me and spend my remaining 25 years of teaching “UNION FREE”! Saved a great deal of money too! :)

"It is straight out Alinski's "Rules for Radicals", and whenever it is used, it is ALWAYS used to bring the group to the predetermined outcome. It is NEVER used by honest people to honestly assess the desires of those in attendance." A Freeper friend of mine wrote this comment about the Deplhi Technique article:

Yes this is a great informative must read for people that don't know how this works. I also would add that I use this method daily in different ways. Its called subversive manipulation. When people understand the power of psychological war far, it can be by an individual to (conspire) with others or by ones self to harness the anger and never ending disappointments we freepers feel daily, at least I do. When you personally access these feelings and learn how to reverse this, a person can subvertly turn this back onto the very people that play this *good cop bad cop* shtick!

Example, the MSM. Fox news plays good cop to soothe the *birthers* while MSNBC, CNN play *bad cop*. When people realize these MSM puppets, and others like Rush, Hannity and Beck are using these techniques, the sooner we render them irrelevant! We true God fearing believers in the constitution need to learn this and take the gloves off! Use these techniques against them. Remember the entire MSM want an equal share of the MSM money pie! And people better learn this technique as these tea parties will eventually face off with ACORN!!!
