Oklahoma is still leading the rest of the states in affirming state sovereignty over those powers not granted to the federal government by the Constitution as secured by the Tenth Amendment. On February 18 the Oklahoma House passed HJR1003, a bill affirming Oklahoma's Tenth Amendment sovereignty powers, by a vote of 83 to 13. Today the Oklahoma Senate passed its version of the bill, SJR10, by a vote of 25 to 17.

At least 15 other states have already introduced resolutions similar to Oklahoma's

(I am from Indiana, however I am friends with our sponsor in the Senate), however I think the question you Oklahomans need to ask Sen. Brogdon, and Rep. Key is: WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP in Asserting State Sovereignty (Protection of the Constitutional Rights of citizens of your state): (I sincerely hope this wasn't a "feelgood" measure..)

i realize that on the face of it these measures change nothing. What practical function do they serve, beyond political points for state legislatures with their constituents?

doc, excuse me if I am incorrect, but if a state is sovereign, doesn’t that mean they don’t pay into the IRS Ponzi Scheme of the United States?

Can the Federal Government still mandate states to do certain things that cost the states money?

Oklahoma and Alaska were the only states to go completely red in last years election. Senator Colburn does not bring home any pork and I don’t think the others do as well.

From what I understand, they send highway funds (gas taxes) to DC then have to beg to get them back for their highways. On the radio this am a state legislator said they would stop sending the money to DC and keep it themselves.

“When Obama takes away all your federal funding, we shall see how the voting goes.”

I would not count on it. There are more states to follow them.

I am a native Texan, but love Oklahoma. (my daughter is an OU Grad) We lived there for 7 years, and I would move back in a minute. Great people. Plain spoken, and kind hearted.

Good luck to any state that enforces their sovereignty … I personally think they will loose. I think the Fed will win and we will become the United State of America, with complete federal control of all and everything.

Sieg Heil Obama so to speak

There seems to be two camps here: 1) This does not mean anything and 2)this could be the start of something BIG.

Yes, the Dukes and Duchesses in Versailles on the Potomac will ignore these acts and continue their profligate ways.
Yes, the answer is do not take money in any form nor send taxes of any kind.
Yes, ignore their unfunded mandates.

This is civil/legal disobedience. THAT is the next step; followed bythe alternative is armed insurrection.
No, it is not treason to restore our liberties.
No, do not fear the behemoth we have allowed to grow.
No, I will not resign myself to being a slave.

I served my country, when it was still mine. I will fight to get it back.

"Oklahoma Senate Passes Bill Affirming State Sovereignty.. Good luck. When Obama takes away all your federal funding, we shall see how the voting goes."

I have talked with 2 legislators about this - believe me they are prepared to take the next step and it has been discussed. You have heard the saying "Don't mess with Texas".....we go one better. Our guys are telling the feds "Don't F#@* with Oklahoma!".

If Oklahoma. Texas, Louisianna, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Wyoming. Montanna, and couple of others decide decide to go, there's gonna be mighty cold and hungry Yankees when we cut of the flow of natural gas and oil from our states.............regards - red
