If conservatives cannot win over the hearts and minds of the Republican Party, there is little chance for conservatives to run successful general election campaigns. Conservatives need to retake the leadership of the Republican Party. If you call that ‘shooting your own’, then I want in.

“Congratulations to Dr. Ada Fisher! “

This is an interesting woman. Make her head of the RNC!

From Wikipedia: Ada Fisher

Fisher has written in The North Carolina Conservative that the Republican Party has a long history of black candidates for office, including the first black senator Hiram Revels and the first black congressman, Joseph Rainey, and four of the first six black senators.[5] Fisher continued: “In the rush to find fault while looking for a rightward turn, people forget that it was the Democrats who brought in poll taxes which kept us from voting; were behind the Jim Crow laws which separated us into white and colored; vigorously supported the Ku Klux Klan; and kept us out of their party and from unions and opportunities dictating a say in the course of our lives... The Great Society of Lyndon Johnson took on segregation but, in so doing to some, possibly undermined the social fabric of an independent people in its push for a safety net, which abolished individual responsibility and accountability for behavior and actions.”[5]

Fisher has mentioned that George W. Bush has brought a level of diversity to his cabinet “like no other,” mentioning Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice, Rod Paige, and Alphonso Jackson.[5] She noted in 2006, “No administration had previously had more than two African-Americans in such significant Cabinet-level positions.”[5]

Fisher supports a flat tax,[2] small businesses (”many of which started in our communities”), gun rights (”which [have] often made a difference in the African-American community’s security”), and expanded education options.[5] She opposes gay marriage (once saying, “Marriage ought to be between one man and one woman at one time, and I’m still waiting.”)[2] She opposes spending out of the Social Security trust fund (”I like the lock box”).[2]

She is in favor of tort reform for medical malpractice lawsuits and a free enterprise system of health care: “If you socialize medicine, you will lose the creativity and innovation that brings us new drugs and new treatments. You’ll also stifle physician choice and opportunities in medicine.”[2]

Fisher does not support open borders for reasons of national security,[2] nor does she support illegal immigration to the United States or language accommodations for driver’s licenses for those who do not speak English.[12] She has called President Bush’s guest worker proposals “amnesty” that will depress wages for Americans:[12] “It is not correct to say undocumented workers do jobs, which Americans won’t do. If these jobs were required to pay minimum wages there are thousands of out of work people who would be glad to fill them. It should not be lost on the American public that the number of unskilled Americans out of work approximates the number of illegal residents in this country. Exploiting illegal residents ultimately depresses wages for everyone.”[12] Fisher continued, “As a black woman, I will never support any provision to relax borders with Mexico when we keep turning Haitians away and sending them back to situations we know are equally bad if not worst... granddaughter of a free African boy who was made a slave on reaching these shores and granddaughter of his Seminole Indian wife, I am mad that my peoples were stripped of our cultures and languages to improve this nation and now see others advance with minimum standards set for their citizenship as they become our new underclass.”[12]

To stem illegal immigration, Fisher proposes random checks on companies known to hire illegal workers, fines and penalties for companies found guilty, deportation of illegal workers, adoption of tamper-proof photo visas for non-citizens entering the United States. She believes money sent to Mexico to compensate Social Security taxes paid by illegal workers (the Social Security Totalization Agreement) should instead be given to states whose social services are strapped from illegal immigration, and the United States should commence oil drilling in Mexico, helping Mexicans find jobs and business profits while helping to solve the United States’ energy needs. Fisher also believes national standards for driver’s licenses should be invoked, as well as voter identification cards.[12]

Steele took the bait and lost the argument. It’s too bad but it cannot be reversed. Too much at stake here. Start fresh, soon.

Does no one have a problem that this lady was running her mouth about the “terrible state of the Republican Party” to that awful Rachel Maddow on MSNBC last night? We don’t need her giving aid and comfort to our enemy.

I think Fisher has an agenda and I don’t like her spouting off and displaying our dirty linen to the most liberal talk show host there is. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing when my son called me in to watch this spectacle last night.

I didn’t see the show, but are you saying the republican party is not in a terrible state?

Another lie. He never agreed with anything of the sort. Being ambushed in an “interview” is not agreeing.

He replied "you're right". Even if he was "ambushed" in the interview, a response of "you're right" is inexcusable. If he can't think on his feet any better than that, he has no business at the head of the RNC.

“You’re a liar. Steele never said he wanted the GOP to be more hip-hop.”

Ad hominem attacks are so unbecoming, especially when you are horribly wrong:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2189116/posts

How about we dial down both the name-calling and increase the accuracy of our statements. Red isn't a liar, in that Steele did make comments close to what Red stated; but at the same time, a direct quote of Steele in the article Red cites doesn't say exactly what Red claimed either.

”There was underlying concerns we had become too regionalized and the party needed to reach beyond our comfort” zones, he said, citing defeats in such states as Virginia and North Carolina. “We need messengers to really capture that region - young, Hispanic, black, a cross section ... We want to convey that the modern-day GOP looks like the conservative party that stands on principles. But we want to apply them to urban-surburban hip-hop settings.

But, he elaborated with a laugh, “we need to uptick our image with everyone, including one-armed midgets.”

Clearly, Steele isn't saying "the GOP needs to be more hip-hop, but rather that we need to figure out how to convey our principles in a way that those in an urban-suburban hip-hop setting can understand the superiority of conservative principles. In that regard, Steele is right. We will not win with these groups of voters (or with independents or anybody else) by being more like democrats, but we MUST find ways to reach out to these constituencies and convince them that the conservative agenda is better for them.

I think we need to reorganize and get back to basics. But I don’t think we need to be displaying our internal problems and squabbles on MSNBC. I’m not arguing with what she said, I’m arguing with WHERE she said it: to an audience of liberal Ds, who will only take glee at this.

Do you see my point?

I’ve posted earlier that Steele spoke out more than anyone during the campaign - he was a superb rep for our team. I am certainly giving him a chance and time to find his voice as leader.

I think the mistakes he made recently fall under the category of interview technique/salesmanship errors.

...it seemed like he was trying to get to a point and rushed to anticipate and acknowledge the opinion of the other person (maybe due to time constraints) and made the error of creating an objection and agreeing with it. I’m going to guess he learned from that.

I don’t believe that Steele thinks that the Republicans are nazi’s or that Rush is ugly...I think he thinks that’s what his adversaries believe and he needs coaching on how to get his points out under tight time frames without agreeing with the others. Just tell him to watch Carville for techniques on that.

Lotsa luck with that—I mean, you’re right of course, in theory-it’s a no brainer, but it’s valid to the same extent that Communism is perfect—it is-on paper.

Conservatism is essentially about personal accountability—as such, when talking to people with a race card to play, an entitlement mentality, or any other excuse, crutch, etc it’s a little like being the person telling kids that spinach is better than junk food, and flossing your teeth is good for you. They don’t want to hear. There is far more of a preconceived bias on their side versus us than vice versa.

Our complaints about them lie mostly with their conduct—you can see, even since the Steele story, their opposition is that the GOP is “old”, “fat”, “blue-blazered”, “country club”, etc—what thwy really mean is “white” of course—some even say it openly—we condemn them for their actions—they hate us for who we are—or more accurately who they think we are.

Communication is a two-way street—we can reach out—although how are we being exclusionary now? However, they also need to come forward-—but telling folks like these things they don’t want to hear is an uphill battle. It underscores who is the more close-minded group is in reality.

I think Steele is a putz-i lived in Md. and he doesn’t cut it—I’d ask him, or you, or anyone else—what —specifically—not in generalities-— should we do along these lines?

I don’t know Rachel Maddow. I have regular TV, not cable.

Anyway, I have been around lots of black women all my life and I know their m.o. I’m not saying you haven’t or don’t, but Dr. Fisher seems to me to be like many black women I know: a straight talker, loud and proud.

:o)

"He [Steele] is a disgrace.

And that is being kind."

Simply put, THAT is the score on Steele.

Can anyone tell us why the RNC head-honcho needs to be attending the Black separatist 'State of the Black Union,' and groveling at the feet of Tavis Smiley and this nobody, D.L. Hughley??

That's right - I forgot; The entire reason the Republican Party has been directed to choose Steele is to completely gut the GOP and any real opposition to 0bama's New World Order agendae.

Silly me expecting the Elites to change plans now.

Steele has been a major disappointment so far.

That said, I’m for giving him more time. Steele wouldn’t be the first guy to make an egregious rookie blunder and turn out to be successful in the end. Also, I think throwing the RNC chair under the bus this early on would give the left exactly what they want. It would be perceived as a panic move, and would give Car-vile and his ilk that much more ammunition.

All IMHO, anyway.

It would be an absolute disaster for Mike Steele to resign and even worse for him to be forced out. What kind of message would that send to the people we are trying to bring in to the GOP, “Minorities need not apply”?

“Minorities need not apply”?

No, just "Idiots need not apply" or "Bring your brain to work" or "Don't be a liberal-appeasing douche" or "Quit trying to look cool on TV" or "Punish the RINO traitors" or something like that.

"I don't want to hear anymore [sic] language trying to be cool about the bling in the stimulus package or appealing to D.L. Hughley and blacks in a way that isn't going to win us any votes and makes us frankly appear to many blacks as quite foolish," Fisher wrote. >>>>>>>>>>>>>

Fisher is right. We need a conservatve as Chair of the RNC, not a reformed RINO. It has nothing to do with his race , nor Fishers in all truth.

We need a real hard nosed fighter, someone who is as tough as Tom DeLay was.

Perhaps it would send a message that Republicans will not support a party chairman that sits through an interview where the ignoramus host compares the party convention to Nazi Germany. Steele uttered not a single word in protest. He should have punched Hughley in the mouth and walked off the set. If he had he would be a hero today.
