Scarborough On Steele: ‘Sometimes Being Black Isn’t Enough’
FinkelBlog ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 03/05/2009 5:05:12 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

Joe Scarborough has joined a chorus of Republicans wondering whether Michael Steele might not be cutting it as RNC Chairman . . .

Scarborough was spurred to his comments by a clip from Sean Hannity’s show in which Steele claimed that when on CNN he called Rush Limbaugh “incendiary” and “ugly,” he didn’t mean to criticize him but was merely describing how those trying to demonize Rush were taking his words. Joe clearly wasn’t buying.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: Oh, is he sad. Is he sad. You know what the Republicans are learning right now?

At that point Joe paused, drumming his fingers as if deciding whether to take the plunge. He did.

SCARBOROUGH: Sometimes being black isn’t enough.

I have the distinct impression that the GOP has been trying to choose leaders based on some racist view of who has a popular skin color. I like Jindal well enough, but his skin color is obviously a huge point in his favor right now. And Steele is where he is because his skin color is the right color.

I thought we were better than that.

Personally I thought Steele would be excellent. I am wrong a bit more than Rush and this may be one of those times.

To be truly black you have to be a liberal victim card hyphenated American.

Respectfully disagree with you on Jindal. He's doing a great job cleaning up Louisiana.

I care about competence, not skin color.

I'm keeping my mind open about Steele. He's had a rocky start, let's see how he overcomes it.

Oh, don’t disagree with me on Jindal! I like Jindal! But I think it’s clear that the Republican who was chosen to respond to Obama’s speech to the joint session of congress was chosen for that role because he was black. Jindal is competent, and he was chosen in part because of his competence. But his skin color was the decisive factor.

Shame on Joe; he has really turned into a clymer, and more. His antics yesterday with his “exclusive” interview with Steele was beyond stupid.

“Sometimes black isn’t enough”? What has Joe become? A democrat? Who cares about the color of Steele’s skin? He stepped in it and will pay a price, but in the end, he will move beyond it. Steele needs to work on retooling his message, not get caught up in the media hype, and learn to laugh at the idiots in MSM, and that includes the idiot Joe.

“SCARBOROUGH: Sometimes being black isn’t enough.”

Well, apparently in the case of “the one,” it was enough, because Lord knows there isn’t much else going there and a lot of sheep elected him simply because they wanted to make history - “puke.”

“And Steele is where he is because his skin color is the right color.”

In the meantime, Michael Jackson has turned his skin white. (He will never be able to hold a high office with the GOP.)

Go figure.

I'm keeping my mind open about Steele.

I feel the same way. As is always the case, the rotten left is out to destroy any of us that they can. Michael Steele is a bright man. I think he sees what's going on. I'm sure he has the example of Clarence Thomas in mind.

How disgusting of Scarborough to suggest that all he has going for him is that he is black.

It also sends a message that we are no different than the libs, pandering to the lowest common denominator of our base. It’s an insult to the intelligence of all Americans, not just blacks, to assume that people will focus more on skin color than on the content of a person’s message-—oh, wait a minute. I guess maybe they’re right...

Jindal is ultra-competent. Look up that Hurricane Gustav speech of his - he was speaking on the stump. And he backed up his words with competent action & decision-making. Jindal’s not a slick empty suit like Obama - who, truth be told, is actually a wimpy, metrosexual nerd who just happens to have a baritone.

After 60 years of graft & DEM incompetence, & literally drowning in it at the end, the libs in LA — except in NOLA proper, where they reelected Nagin - realized they needed the former. The rest of the blue U.S. apparently hasn’t suffered enough yet & is still stuck on the latter. Time will tell if they learn the lesson the hard way.

Scarborough should stop taking the bait & shut up. The real news right now is not be whether the RNC has a leader -probably not, but we can go around the RNC — b/c the GOP has no prospect of meaningful power for years, except what can be brokered with the Blue Dogs in Congress. The issue right now is a pack of incompetents running our country into the ground.

When Republicans try to suck up to the MSM they always step in it. Michael Steel threw Rush under the bus because he thought it would look good to the MSM and moderates. We should not worry about the moderates, when they realize that their retirement has been postponed indefinitely because the old 401K looks like Shiite they will get on board.

I thought we were better than that.

Someone somewhere should actually heed Martin Luther King's words.

We should be choosing people for the "content of their character and not the color of their skin."

America has already done itself a grave (possibly fatal) disservice with Obama.

Whatever we do, we need to choose the best man or woman.

Jindal needs more seasoning to determine if he has what it takes.

Steele's value was being able to offer criticism of Obama without immediate cries of racism. Instead he criticizes Rush. Just brilliant.

Typical liberal projection.

The fact is that Dem voters are going to learn that being black isn’t enough when it comes to voting for a potus.

Steele suffers from the same malady that other Republican “leaders” have had in the past few years - THEY DON’T LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE! Rush, largely represents what’s on the minds of the people, but since the GOP “leaders” think they know best, they can’t lead because they’re heading out in a different direction than the rank and file.
