Baucus And Tester Send Warning Shot To Protect 2nd Amendment
Tuesday, March 3, 2009
(Washington D.C.)- Montanas U.S. Senators Max Baucus and Jon Tester sent a simple and clear message to Attorney General Eric Holder today: any new gun restrictions are a non-starter.
In a letter to Holder, Baucus and Tester emphasized the need to enforce current laws on the books instead of passing additional laws which could infringe on Montanans 2nd Amendment rights.
We oppose reinstating the ban on the sale of assault weapons, and we call on the Department of Justice to enforce existing laws before it considers imposing any new restrictions on gun ownership, Baucus and Tester wrote.
The letter continued by explaining Montanas proud outdoor heritage and how important gun ownership is to that heritage.
We value our outdoor heritage, and a large part of that is our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. Passing this heritage down from one generation to the next is a sacred part of being a Montanan, and something that we will always fight to protect, the letter states.
The Senators letter was prompted by recent comments that Holder made about wanting to introduce new gun restrictions.
Montana Attorney General Steve Bullock applauds the stand that Baucus and Tester have taken.
"Max and Jon are exactly rightwe need to be enforcing the laws that we have on the books," Bullock said. "These one-size-fits all gun laws might be popular in some parts of the country, but they don't work for Montana."
As senators, Baucus and Tester both are members of the Congressional Sportsmen Caucus, which consists of Senators and Representatives working together to protect public lands so future generations can hunt, fish, hike and enjoy other outdoor activities. Baucus is a past Chairman of the caucus, and Tester is the current Vice-Chairman.
-Letter Pasted Below-
Dear Attorney General Holder:
This letter is in regards to your recent comments suggesting the reinstatement of the ban on assault weapons. We oppose reinstating the ban on the sale of assault weapons, and we call on the Department of Justice to enforce existing laws before it considers imposing any new restrictions on gun ownership.
Your comments noted increased violence among international drug traffickers as a reason to reexamine the ban on assault weapons within this country; however, this statement fails to acknowledge laws already in place that work to address this issue. Under current law, both transferring a firearm to someone knowing that it will be used to commit a violent or drug-trafficking crime as well as possessing a firearm in furtherance of a Federal drug trafficking crime are already federal felonies punishable by imprisonment.
We will strongly oppose any legislation that will infringe upon the rights of individual gun owners. We value our outdoor heritage, and a large part of that is our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. Passing this heritage down from one generation to the next is a sacred part of being a Montanan, and something that we will always fight to protect. In the light of the Supreme Courts landmark ruling of District of Columbia v. Heller, affirming the Second Amendment right to bear arms as an individual and constitutionally protected right, we urge you to avoid any legislative proposals that would jeopardize the Constitutional right of law-abiding Americans to own firearms.
Sincerely,
U.S. Senator Max Baucus
U.S. Senator Jon Tester
Holder is a punk thug. He better stay away from all of our guns.
Bump...
Holder is a punk thug. He better stay away from all of our guns.

Yes. He is a punk’s punk thug. Fly over America ain’t Chicago.
We have such wusses here in Wisconsin, they will see to it that we lose all of our gun rights.
The first two lines of the song Bonnie Blue Flag are appropriate in this instance, as far as gun owners are concerned.
WE ARE A BAND OF BROTHERS AND NATIVE TO THE SOIL
FIGHTING FOR OUR LIBERTY WITH TREASURE, BLOOD AND TOIL.
They don’t need your guns, just your ammo and that is where they are going next. They are relentless and never give up.
Kinda like on the Predator movie, there is only one way to be rid of the threat.
I was thinking that same thing. I don’t think the Obamacorns realize how big of a country America really is. Most of them have never been out of the big city or on one of America’s dirt roads up in the back country. If these bozos think they can round up everyone’s guns, they’ve been doing way too many drugs.
Forget the stock market, 401k, and buying gold...invest in ammo. Do it while you can—reloading supplies too.
I will never comply with these usurpers of the constitution.

Not only not round up the guns, these punks would get lost on those back roads and they’d get picked off. They can bet on that.
Amen, Brother!
Although good, I feel that this is just a political stunt by these two rat senators. A way of showing their constituents in Montana that they are with them on the 2nd Amendment. Meanwhile, they’ll continue to vote for all the socialist crap that is coming out of this administration. I have very little respect for democrats, and even less for “blue dogs”.
What’s noteworthy is that two Democratic Senators are explicitly telling Holder that they are opposed to new gun control laws such as a reinstatement of the AWB. There are other Democratic Senators, such as Jim Webb, who will undoubtedly take the same position.
In other words, the votes simply are not there in the Senate to break a filibuster against gun control bills. In fact, I doubt that there is even a majority in favor of such laws, much less 60 votes. Similarly, the Blue Dog Democrats in the House have made clear that they don’t want to touch anything which would annoy the NRA.
Democrats are scared shitless on the gun control issue. They know that public opinion has moved away from them, and it has become a “third rail of politics” which could easily cost them control of Congress if they aren’t very careful.
All in all, it’s excellent news for the RKBA. Gun grabbers like Holder and Rahm and Obama aren’t going to be able to steal our freedoms on this issue.
Very nice, but they're going after AMMO and ELIGIBILITY, you Senators. You'd better amend your letter.
> "We value our outdoor heritage,"
Once again, the politicians show that they don't get it. The 2nd Amendment has NOTHING to do with outdoor heritage, and EVERYTHING to do with resistance against tyrannical government.
Make no mistake about it. They are coming after ammo and guns.
They are going to shut down talk radio and any dissenting voices.
It’s going to happen sooner than later.
Bank on it.
I reject the premise for using the term “assault weapons.” How about “preventive weapons?”
They dont need your guns, just your ammo and that is where they are going next.
They want the ammo, huh? I've heard about the plan to micro-stamp all bullets, and maintain a computerized database of every purchase, with the ostensible goal of solving crimes. Its real goal is to make ammo so expensive that most people simply throw in the towel and give up shooting. Oh, and to make it work they have to declare all previously produced bullets to be contraband, with anyone found with so much as 1 "prohibited" bullet guilty of a felony.
Those in favor of such a plan might be a bit surprised at how eager lots of people will be to deliver those bullets to them, via airmail, and how quickly they arrive. There are, after all, many competing carriers that offer speedy service and accurate deliveries: Bushmaster Express, ColtEx, DPMS Express, Remington Express and WinEx, among many others.
