Franklin D. Raines, the former chief executive of Fannie Mae, used a special program at mortgage lender Countrywide Financial to receive a below-market rate on a home loan, contrary to sworn testimony he made to Congress in December, according to the top Republican on the House Committee on Oversight and Government.

Rep. Darrell Issa (Calif.) released documents yesterday that he said show Raines received discounts and waivers of fees on a June 2003 home loan through the "Friends of Angelo" program, named after Countrywide's then-chief executive, Angelo R. Mozilo.

If Fannie Mae is a GSE and Raines cooked the books to earn a bigger payday, isn't that falsifying government documents, defrauding the government and embezzlement?

I guess the Post is short on space.

They couldn’t find room to mention that this loan happened in the middle of the 6 years when Fannie paid him NINETY ONE MILLION DOLLARS!

Oh, nor does it mention the systemic accounting fraud at Fannie...fake profits that generated those huge bonuses!

Me too and abused Italian peasants as well.

Most Americans, as descendants of the lower classes in Europe led a life not much better than that of American slaves.

I declare March, Abused European Peasant History Month.

Me too (poor Catholic Germans), and Scotch-Irish Appalachians (Presbyterians), as well. How’s that for an American mutt? ;-)

Bottom line is, we can complain to each other about this kind of thing until the cows come home. But, until the mainstream media, which most of the country gets it’s info from, reports this kind of thing, it doesn’t really matter at all.

...contrary to sworn testimony...

It would appear that Raines committed perjury. I'm sure Attorney General Holder is preparing an indictment even as we speak.

So, doesn’t matter. Sorry, just as many of the melanin plus crowd had free ancestors and yet get to ask for reparations, the melanin minus germanics bear the stain of war crimes. Fact and history are not the issue, the dialectic is. :)
