Cincinnati Tea Party

Fellow Citizens and Taxpayers,

We've crossed the tipping since I last emailed you. We've gone from 250 registered attendees to well over 1200 and counting. All the credit goes to you as you are the ones making this happen. You are the ones spreading the word and all of us working to plan the Tea Party are grateful for it.

First, Brian Thomas of the 55KRC morning show has graciously mentioned us on air several times and has invited me to be on the show tomorrow at 8:35am. Brian has a great show and I hope I can do our movement justice on the air. I encourage you to listen in the morning and get your family, friends, and neighbors to listen as well - even those who might not normally agree with us. Many who voted for Barack Obama and believed the moderate rhetoric are now getting buyer's remorse. We need to welcome them to join us as well.

Second, I want to mention a story that has been making the rounds on the internet. Playboy made an attempt at investigative journalism and accused the tea party movement of being "astroturfed." This is an insider slang term for a fake grassroots movement i.e. astroturf. The accusation was that the movement was not spontaneous and was planned/funded by the Koch Family fortune. This has since been thoroughly debunked and the article removed from Playboy's site. Regardless, I want to assure you that our group was spontaneously created last weekend in discussions with my friends and family. The only money spent to organize this rally has been my own and a few friends. While I appreciate the offers that some have made, I have no means to accept donations. I am exploring that option for future action.

In the meantime, please continue to do what you're doing because it's working! This is our country and we WILL take it back. Government of this size is not sustainable and it WILL be reduced. There is a very simple reason why the markets are down so much - no intelligent person will take risks or invest money when we expect the government to tax away the reward or change the rules so we can't be successful.

Thank you again for your support.

Mike Wilson http://www.cincinnatiteaparty.org/ This is our country and we're here to take it back!

Like someone said yesterday, nice website. Much better than the Chicago one. No excuse not to look professional today, it’s so easy.

I heard just the last 60 seconds of the interview this morning. From what I heard, sounds like March 15 at Fountain Square. I don’t know what time, though. I tried a quick Google (too bad I have to jump up and leave now), but maybe someone smarter can find it.

Brian Thomas ROCKS.

Not related to the tea party, but today is the 100th anniversary of Cincinnati native William Howard Taft becoming President of the United States. Is anyone in Cincinnati paying attention to the anniversary?

The Rally

Vitals

Date: March 15, 2009

Time: 3:00pm-5:00pm

Location: Fountain Square Cincinnati (corner of 5th and Vine streets)

Committed Attendees: 727 (as of 3/3/2009 - 7:50am)

What to Bring

We’re asking everyone who comes to bring three things. Signs, tea bags, and more people! Why? Signs, particularly clever signs, get photographed and get on TV. It also shows that the people that came put in some time and effort. Next, in the tradition of the original Boston Tea Party, we’ll be dumping our tea. We’ll have large barrels for everyone to bring their tea bags and “dump them.” Lastly, the more people we have at the rally, the more media attention we get, and the more pressure we can bring to affect the change we want!

Remember, if we don’t know you’re coming, it makes it harder for us to get the media coverage we want and deserve. Please visit the contact page and tell us you’re coming. We can’t wait to meet you!

Fountain Square Rules

Sticks may be used to hold up signs as long as they meet the following rules:

*

Blunt on both ends
*

Not more then 2” in width
*

Not more than .75” in diameter
*

Not more than .25” in thickness
*

Not more than 40” in length.

No displays, exhibits or other structures may be placed within 20 feet of the Tyler-Davidson Fountain.

We've gone from 250 registered attendees to well over 1200 and counting.

When I signed up yesterday, it was at about 750. Given that there are still 11 days to go, this looks very, very promising. There is enough alarm and anger out there, that most who say they will come, probably will.

By way of a bit of history. Cincinnati came through the last depression relatively better off than most cities, and one of the reasons was many of the home mortgages were held by local, neighborhood centered, savings & loans, owned by thrifty depositors, who understood how wealth was created and preserved--that is the exact opposite to the ignorance & Socialist mindset in Washington, today. Unfortunately, Cincinnnati is not so well positioned to survive the latter, now.
