WASHINGTON - D.C. police say McGruff the crime dog, who urges children to "take a bite out of crime," became a victim Saturday when a bus driver punched him in the face as he handed fliers to children.
The popular crime-fighting dog has been around since 1980 as a cartoon character and as a furry mascot known by children and parents alike.
Police say the Metro bus driver, 38-year-old Shawn Brim, climbed off the bus at the corner of 14th Street and Spring Street, adjusted both sideview mirrors and then swung at Officer Tyrone Hardy, who was dressed as McGruff.

Quiet the scene
Should have maced and shot him as well. After all, were setting an example.
PETA should be all over this case.
“I’m mad as hell, and I’m not gonna take it anymore!”
Read the whole story at link, Trying to acertain exacly what happened. But the only info is that the bus driver is “suspect” based on his past and that the cop is back to dressing like McGruff.
I’ll take a ‘Ralph Cramden’ any day over some of the bus drivers I’ve heard about. If the bus driver belongs in prison, I hope that’s exacly what He/She gets.
Maybe it was a Muslim who hated the blasphemy of a talking dirt beast.
Ahh, 14th Street in DC. Say no more. Loaded with hookers, pushers, homos, murderers, and rapists. Used to live near Thomas Circle in DC where I could hear the gunshots at night. Great place to live if you needed liquor, porn, Popeye’s chicken, checks cashed, or bail bonds. Feared for my life.
Residents of 14th St. don’t get appalled at much.
Its a dog's world. You go to the office, take off the blue suit, put on the doggy suit, day after day, and then someting like this happens. Doggy needs an embedded firearm in that suit.
Bow ( bang!) Wow!
“Residents of 14th St. dont get appalled at much.”
Indeed, life was cheap there. I moved to Alexandria off of Duke Street and it wasn’t much better.
Memo to Tyrone Hardy: some folks don't take kindly to furry mascots. A bit of a creep factor there, you know? Maybe you'll have better luck as...
Nah, they'd only want to put the dog to sleep.
“I’m not going to condemn him without hearing the full story” (Maybe the guy in the dog suit was disrespectful - that’s a spanking)
