President Obama intends to repeal a Bush administration rule that has become a flash point in the debate over a doctor's right not to perform abortions.
The regulation, instituted in the last days of the Bush administration, strengthened job protections for doctors and nurses who refuse to provide a medial service because of moral qualms.
A Health and Human Services official said Friday the administration will publish notice of its plans early next week, opening a 30-day comment period for advocates on both sides, medical groups and the public.
But Republicans are already voicing strong opposition.
"I will do nothing against my conscience in the practice of medicine ever regardless of what any law is at any time, " Sen. Tom Coburn told FOX News. "And I can tell you that there are a lot of physicians that feel exactly that same way across the country."
Federal law has long forbidden discrimination against health care professionals who refuse to perform abortions or provide referrals for them on religious or moral grounds. The Bush administration's rule adds a requirement that institutions that get federal money certify their compliance with laws protecting the rights of moral objectors. It was intended to block the flow of federal funds to hospitals and other institutions that ignore those rights.

Baby-killer is right.
Obama is a scumbag abortionist!
No need to repeat yourself...
Wasn’t this beyond his pay grade?
now, nothing is below his pay grade. he will strong arm as much as he can.

Greetings to all the leftist baby killers....
Now say a Muslim doctor or nurse practices n the US, would it be acceptable not to make them scrub beyond their wrists due to their religion? As an OB nurse, this whole abortion thing makes me want to puke.
Babies soon to be an endangered species.
Pray for the unborn.
I don’t know if obama is satins little helper but he sure seems to be trying awfully hard to gain his favor.
I mean, what’s the point of changing the law? Unless you fully intend to force those in health care to go against their beliefs and make them kill innocent little babies.
No one is forcing women into having abortions. This is a personal choice that I think would be very difficult to make. It should be between her “self” and her “God”.
This is a very correct personal issue for conservatives but it is not a winning political issue on the national level.
The social conservatives within the GOP can make as much noise as they want but the GOP can not win national elections on this issue. It is not going to happen. It must be a State issue where the local population should decide if this medical procedure may be preformed.
The GOP’s best shot at winning national elections should be based on conservative economic issues and national defense.
I am a pro-abortion conservative. Legally killing democrat voters one baby at a time. Who could be against that.
Just tell me how you would force a doctor to perform an abortion. Tom Coburn said he would go to jail and so would a lot of others. I think you’ll find a groundswell of civil disobedience if they try this. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that fair-minded liberals (there are some) would actually object to the law because, even though they themselves might perform abortions, they don’t think someone else should be forced to.

I am for life. Don’t blame the kids because their parents are libs. Lots of those kids go on to reject their parents’ leftist values.
Where have you been for 30 years? Roe V Wade made it a national issue when it took away the state's rights that you refer to. No state can enact restrictions against abortion. Even commonsense parental notification requirements are under siege in the FOCA.
Contact Obama and tell him not to rescind the conscience clause:
