President Obama says he wants to be president of all the people. But some groups are urging him to make an exception for the Boy Scouts of America.

Critics of the Scouts who are outraged that the group is allowed to exclude gays and atheists while receiving federal funding are urging Obama to reject the group's honorary presidency, a designation bestowed on every U.S. president since William Howard Taft in 1910.

The BSA is not what it used to be....

No kidding. I just learn recently, to my horror, that the Philadelphia Council that was being blackmailed into going "gay" or lose the use of the public building (for which a perpetual lease was in effect) caved on the issue. My heart sank. Maybe this is just the isolated action of an individual council beaten down until it didn't know how to fight anymore - but Scouting should be tougher than this.

... in 2001 the federal government ordered public schools to keep their doors open to the Scouts. And Congress, responding to the threat of campus lockouts, voted to cut federal funding to any school that banned the Scouts or any similar group from "open forum" access.

That was then; this is now. The exponential matastasization of a coarsening, Godless society and government corruption will soon turn this reasonable mindset around.

What federal funding would that be? I'm not aware that the BSA gets federal funding.

Just saw a ticker a while ago on FOX which said the Pres did indeed refuse to accept the title of honorary pres of the Boy Scouts of America because of the BSA excludes atheists and homosexuals. The end is near.

First Dictator of the United States. Pull your head out and understand that this fascist is NOT a good roll model for boys. I remember as a scout getting my *ss kicked by a leader for reading a short history of the Third Reich at a jamboree. They felt that book would not be a good influence on a scout. Stop the political correctness cr*p and protect those boys before they grow us as slaves in an Obama regime. There is such a thing as a coup de tat.

...but if they're excluding people based on whatever arbitrary criteria...

There is nothing arbitrary about excluding homosexuals from the Scouts. The Boy Scouts are protecting children, as they should.

In honor of his economic policies, they should confer the title “ Big Chief-Hole-in-the-PocketHead between his giant ears” to him

there fixed it.

If you need information about the Morman involvment with Scouting google has plenty of information.

Google also has plenty of information about space aliens taking people for rides in their little green ships.

Beandogs assesment is correct.

I dont have any particular problem with the Mormon’s, but I dont want the government spending tax dollars funding a group that’s affiliated with a religious group, I think if some group is recieving federal money it should allow everyone to participate.

Protecting them from what exactly? It can’t be from sexual predators because if someone was a pedophile do you really think they’d say they were gay when they joined?

Then can I assume that you are for closing down all hispitals, battered women's and children's shelters, and all other charitable institutions run by religious groups that receive any government funds -- directly or indirectly??

Also, can I assume that you erroneously believe that complete "separation of church and state" is required by the Constitution. Right?

I dont really see how these organizations get money indirectly from the government, unless you mean at the state level. The Federal government should not be involved in this type of activity, the states are better able to determine their needs wrt their people and if the state governments want to provide money for shelters and charities then I'll deal with it at the state level, I'm talking federal level here.

Since you asked the question I'll answer it, yes, if the organization in question is getting Federal dollars to stay in operation then I would require that it not have religious connections (I wonder if a Mosque were to open up a soup kitchen and recieve Federal money to operate would you still have the same belief that the Government should be supporting such activities?)

Thats some fairly substantial research calling what I previously thought about homosexuals into doubt. You’ve given me some things to think about, as opposed to the other posters merely namecalling, which I ignore. I thank you for backing up your point with actual research.
