As the debate over H-1B workers and skilled immigrants intensifies, we are losing sight of one important fact: The U.S. is no longer the only land of opportunity. If we don't want the immigrants who have fueled our innovation and economic growth, they now have options elsewhere. Immigrants are returning home in greater numbers. And new research shows they are returning to enjoy a better quality of life, better career prospects, and the comfort of being close to family and friends

Mega dittos here..... we don’t need them....they congest our universities, take advantage of every government giveaway they can find, and work tirelessly to bring over older relatives to partake of our Social Security system...(there are such things as reciprocal agreements for SS between countries....)... good riddance.

Not as easy as it sounds, unfortunately. A lot of our grad schools are turning out several times the number of advanced degree holders in social work and related fields as they are in the sciences and technical fields. We're gonna need to start providing some incentives for American kids to get into those fields!

Immigrants left the US in droves during the Great Depression. Jobs are the magnet that attracts most of our current immigrants. Less jobs means less immigrants—at least illegal ones and those here on work visas.

You said — “We’re gonna need to start providing some incentives for American kids to get into those fields!”

Not a better time than “the present”... :-)

Don't worry, the laws of supply and demand will finally be allowed work, instead of wages being artificially lowered by H1-B slaves....

Hopefully the other immigrants who clutter America with their mosques will also go back home where they can honor murder at will.

I have a friend who is trying to hire a post-doc to work for him at the Lawrence Livermore Nat’l Lab; everyone applying for the position is from Asia, and not even “Asian-Americans” either; Asians (including Indians) period. Also some scientists from Norway, Finland, whatever.

Those few Americans who get degrees in the sciences don’t seek careers in science; they end up in business/finance where there is more easy $$. Maybe that will be changing now, with the collapse of the financial industries, and our smartest science grads will now choose to stay in science.

you might wanna hold off on he cheering...

he “skilled” ones might be leaving for better opportunities, but I wouldn’t expect a similar rush among the unskilled.

I doubt if there’s a better opportunity available for them then the US social safety net.

Man are you right. Just think, without a robust immigration program just think of the idiots and slackers we could have kept out of the country. You know, people (or there offspring) like...

Albert Einstien - stupid physics and all that stuff.

Wernher von Braun - worthless rocket technology

Michael E. DeBakey - heart surgery, who needs it?

Henry Kissinger - what good has that guy done?

We are such a richer and more affluent society when we just keep the dirty immigrants out. Don't you agree?

You speak the truth on this, though many Muricans don’t want to hear it. The best the nativists will achieve is a higher cost of living for everyone.

Glad to see not everyone has gone collectivist.

When my son got his PhD in physics I was amazed at the interest and job offers from the big companies with defense contracts. It finally struck me, he is a red-blooded American guy who could qualify for a top-secret clearance.

He presently works for one of those companies, has a top-secret clearance and can't even tell me what he does.

"All of which came here legally!!!"

And, you think the SKILLED IMMIGRANTS that are leaving, or don't feel welcomed enough to attempt to come in the first place are "sneaking illegally" over the boarder?

Here's a clue. Unskilled illegal immigrants make less than $7.00 an hour. Skilled immigrants, the ones that are the topic of this thread, earn in excess of six figures. American companies DON'T PAY ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS SIX FIGURES.

Don’t worry, our educational system will pick up the slack. Who needs skilled workers, anyway?

Doesn't give anyone the right to destroy the fabric of our country just to satisfy your "friends" needs.
